About 10 years ago I was introduced to a game called
Quest. It's an RPG PBM (that's Play-By-Mail), you would create this party of 6 characters and venture around this world doing the usual RPG stuff. To play the game you had to post orders on what you wanted your party to do. It involved using letters and numbers so it looked a bit confusing (ex. M 3334). After they received your orders and processed it, they would send you the results of what happened and then you would send in more orders. It was fun, I enjoyed it. Made a few friends and at one time use to get 15 letters a day. I think I might have been geekier than Rosalind back then (don't worry she wont read this heh) This was before everyone had the internet and mobile phones were still brickish.
I eventually tired of the game and by that I mean I just couldnt afford it. £2.something per turn was just too much. They've moved onto the internet now so turns are processed by email and so everything is a lot quicker than it use to be.
Well anyway, my reason for starting this thread and telling you about all this is because they offer a free demo. That's 20 free turns to play with. So I thought "what the hell" and so I'm now setting up a party for you guys on Freeola :) I'll sort out all the orders and results etc, you guys just create the characters, help decide some orders and enjoy reading what happens :D

Okay first we need 6 characters, I'll take one,
pb and Kawada you two are playing too :), so that leaves 3 characters left. I didn't want to force anyone else to play so if you would like to join please do. Little effort or time is needed so come on. :) if no one else joins I'll just pick some people and use their names anyway heh.If you would like to play and Kawada and pb you'll have to do this too. Could you please do the following;
1.
Name your character (you could use your username)2.
Choose a race for your character3.
Choose a class for your characterUnfortunately we can only have 1 of each, so no 2 human fighters etc.
Suggestions : I can't remember everything but what I can recall was that it's best to only have 1 thief and halfbloods make the best ones. Dwarfs are good fighters, elves are good mages, you get the idea. Just be whoever or whatever you want really :)
I'll post a description about each race and class so you can decide.

Party Name : Ivalice Force1.
Prime Halfblood Fighter (Machie)2.
Boulder / Dwarf Fighter (pb)3.
Robin Human Thief (Kawada)4.
Echo / Elf Priest (Vexxxed)5.
Ambaria Narseek / Elf Mage (snake11)6.
Dead Spiders / Human Priest (Mumbai Duck) Wow, now that's more like it :D I sent the party to go attack that halfblood, but it seems on our way we ran into 6 cavemen. Read what happens in the link above or read the rest here :) I've had to censor a few bits. Maybe I should have given some armour to Snake aswell (but it did suggest not getting any for mages yet). We ended up running away from the Halfblood because both myself and Snake/Ambaria Narseek were quite badly injured.
----
We left Grive(37). We journeyed north using up 5 movement points. We are now in a marsh. As we moved along, we met six Cavemen(3896).
As we approached them, we examined them with a keen eye. There were six Cavemen. (1 Caveman Leader, 3 Cavemen and 2 Children). They did not appear to be injured.
The fat lipped Caveman's short spear struck Ambaria Narseek. He cried, "I'll get you, you b######". Ambaria Narseek retreated. Waving his spear, the swarthy Caveman Leader skewered Prime. He cried, "I'll get you, you b######". Shoving his short spear, the fat lipped Caveman forced through an ineffective defence, striking Ambaria Narseek, in the throat. Screaming "Die you b######!" and hacking his short sword, Dead Spiders hacked, striking the black haired Caveman. He was nearly gutted. The heroes charged, screaming death cries and cutting into the enemy.
Boulder dispatched the scrawny Child by slicing his head down the centre like a ripe water melon. The fleshy chunks were then trod into the ground.
Battle screams were renewed as the first enemy was defeated.
Prime thrust a few times, piercing the black haired Caveman. He stared as the sword went deep into flesh. A test of valour proved too much for some.
Promises of violence were being realised. Readying for battle his axe, Boulder hacked the bony Child, leaving a nasty mess of bloody flesh. Boulder executed the bony Child. He died trying in vain to pick up his guts as they unravelled across the ground.
With another death, the heroes pressed their momentary advantage. The fat lipped Caveman's short spear stabbed Echo, grazing the arm. Prime grinned maniacally, striking the swarthy Caveman Leader. He suffered a major wound. Half-heartedly Prime struck, failing to hit the swarthy Caveman Leader's body.
Precise blows tried to find an opening. The swarthy Caveman's short spear was forced through ineffective defence, striking Prime. He fought through the pain. Led by Echo the party retreated. Our survivors escaped. As the enemy went away, we saw that one was slightly injured and one was seriously injured. We
earned 49 experience points.
Boulder: 4 melee hits (1 critical) killing 2 Children
Prime: 2 melee hits
Dead Spiders: 1 melee hit
Our Orders
This lists all the things we did, at the moment it's just listing the characters who joined to for the party. But in the next turn it'll list our 15 commands in order. That's where you'll be able to read what happens to the party.
Standing Orders
These are orders that we do at the end of every turn. We can have 5. These could be look at our stats (I 99), look at our surroundings (I 0), or pray to a god (P 0-8).
Wilderness Map
This is a map of where we are and what is around us, the numbers mean something is in that square that should be listed below. The images of our surroundings, the green things are forests, the stuff at the top right is swamp and the stuff about the town we're in is marsh. Right click and view properties and you'll see what it is in the file name.
Scout Report
This lists everything that you can see in the map. Some things are on their own, some in groups. H8: Half-blood(3060) means that a halfblood is in section H8 on the map and if we wanted to attack/rob/etc we would use his target number 3060
Settlement Report
This lists all the shops in the town, what they sell and their prices.
Character Stats
This lists all the stats for the party, skill, toughness, awareness, charisma, etc.
Character Weapons
Lists our melee and missle weapons as well as our armour. Oh and our "load" the more load we have the weaker and slower we our.
Party Profile
This describles what our party looks like, our attitude and what we'll do if we get into danger.
Character Equipment
Everything we're carrying
Spells and Powers
This lists our mages and priests, they can rank their spells that they can use during a battle, it also lists their "spell points" which is limited so you cant cast lots of spells at once.
Alignment/Priest Spells
This graph shows our alignment with the 8 gods, so far we are in the middle. The list underneath shows all the miracles we can use , because we have some high skilled priests we can already use a lot of spells already. Some require 20, 30 and 40 points if you use them.
Weapon Skills
This lists our weapon skills, as you can see we're not doog at anything yet. Except pb is now really good at axes where he was only so-so before.
Information Tokens
This is a list of things we have discovered, so it's listing all the new spells and miracles we have. If we run into an orc it would provide us a info token on what orcs are like etc. So this information will only appear once.
New Result 1
And to be honest it's probably a good thing that we've started again. Everyone seems to have gotten more powerful with the exception of me :/ Snake your Elven Mage has increased all his stats. Skill, awareness and toughness has gone up for everyone. pb's Boulder has gone from 40 to 52 skill. Thanks to the increase in skill Dead Spiders can do even more miracles than before (some really powerful ones now) and even Echo can do more.
T'will all be over soon...
> Maybe we could hire another elven mage when we get enough money.
> We'll need another one, though we'll need more fighters too.
That's cool, I don't want to intrude on your party...
Scared of goblins ha!
