About 10 years ago I was introduced to a game called
Quest. It's an RPG PBM (that's Play-By-Mail), you would create this party of 6 characters and venture around this world doing the usual RPG stuff. To play the game you had to post orders on what you wanted your party to do. It involved using letters and numbers so it looked a bit confusing (ex. M 3334). After they received your orders and processed it, they would send you the results of what happened and then you would send in more orders. It was fun, I enjoyed it. Made a few friends and at one time use to get 15 letters a day. I think I might have been geekier than Rosalind back then (don't worry she wont read this heh) This was before everyone had the internet and mobile phones were still brickish.
I eventually tired of the game and by that I mean I just couldnt afford it. £2.something per turn was just too much. They've moved onto the internet now so turns are processed by email and so everything is a lot quicker than it use to be.
Well anyway, my reason for starting this thread and telling you about all this is because they offer a free demo. That's 20 free turns to play with. So I thought "what the hell" and so I'm now setting up a party for you guys on Freeola :) I'll sort out all the orders and results etc, you guys just create the characters, help decide some orders and enjoy reading what happens :D

Okay first we need 6 characters, I'll take one,
pb and Kawada you two are playing too :), so that leaves 3 characters left. I didn't want to force anyone else to play so if you would like to join please do. Little effort or time is needed so come on. :) if no one else joins I'll just pick some people and use their names anyway heh.If you would like to play and Kawada and pb you'll have to do this too. Could you please do the following;
1.
Name your character (you could use your username)2.
Choose a race for your character3.
Choose a class for your characterUnfortunately we can only have 1 of each, so no 2 human fighters etc.
Suggestions : I can't remember everything but what I can recall was that it's best to only have 1 thief and halfbloods make the best ones. Dwarfs are good fighters, elves are good mages, you get the idea. Just be whoever or whatever you want really :)
I'll post a description about each race and class so you can decide.

Dead Spiders -- New to our party is Dead Spiders, a human priest and our 5th member. Dead Spiders will make people follow him.

As it got dark, the local tavern became rowdy.
The bard smashed his lute over the head of an elf after the elf criticised his rendition of 'Leaves, leaves, leaves'. Echo went down under a bunch of staggering farmers.
Barrels of beer rolled around the pub tripping people. Palmer, the Farmer was belted by a magician's spell book. Tweedle, the Farmer was cracked over the head with a chair. Hank, the Farmer kicked the barman in the nuts.
Beer was kicked over and people were knocked to the ground. Brodwin, the Farmer tripped over a prone body.
Some old duffers were heard arguing about whether last week's fight was actually any better.
An elven lady raised an exquisite eyebrow at the comment of a drunken lout, carefully lifted up her skirt and kicked him full in the face. Echo tumbled along the floor and fell through the trapdoor to the cellar. Prime staggered out of the door and fell into the street gutter. Boulder fled the tavern beating flames out after being thrown into the fire. Ambaria Narseek was last seen falling through the trap door to the cellar. Dead Spiders lay out-cold in a corner of the bar. Robin lay out-cold in a corner of the bar.
The bar staff trooped out from the cellar wielding crossbows, not many had the stomach to carry on at that point. We earned 6 experience points.
We're in Balchord. After the night's events, a local resident offered us a room for the night, free of charge. While we were enjoying our evening meal, he informed us, "As a new non-attack party, you have very little to fear from the wilderness. Other adventuring parties will not fight you, and should you lose out to some tough monsters then any Temple of Baldor will resurrect your dead characters for free for your first twenty turns. In any case, your party will have enough sense not to attack any monsters which are obviously too tough for them, so I suggest you finish equipping yourselves and go and track down some of these creatures!" He smiled and continued, "And as for those other parties of adventurers, well, they're full of talk, always threatening each other and boasting about how powerful they are. You'll find that in a surprisingly short time you'll be as tough as any group around! NPCs and shopkeepers are full of useful advice, so I recommend you have a chat to some of them, too". We read a notice proclaiming that these rewards will be paid by the town council of Balchord(51): Gnoll Hides @ 25 gold and Lizard Man Hides @ 23 gold each.
Ivalice Force no one else made any suggestions :( so we'll go with that :)Results coming soon.
Oh it's not up yet, I just have a few domains, my real name, my language domain and an anime name. I'll create websites for them all soon, but I'll use the anime one for playing this game. I'll post the address when I get the first results :)
I had Lister, Rimmer, Cat, Kryten, Holly oh and I think Polymorph was the 6th. I think Lister was a Dwarf Fighter, Rimmer a Halfblood Thief, Cat was a Priest, Kryten was a Mage and I think Polymorph was a fighter.
I did pretty well. Rimmer was actually a very good thief. It was funny, I didn't tell them to do this but when they were moving, they came across some giant ogres and they sent rimmer off to steal from them, he ended up stealing quite a lot of money but on his way back he messed up and they spotted us. Then came a 2 A4 page battle lol, I think we beat them in the end but we were badly damaged.
Our battle cry was "Awooga! Awooga!" heh
Your website? What website?
I've uploaded all the images onto my website, then when I get the results in HTML I'll upload them too, so everyone can go look. It looks a lot nicer. The God alignment graph use to be just a dot in a square moving towards numbers 1-8.
So yeah when Kawada makes his decision it'll just take a few minutes.
And Mumbai Duck are you in as a human priest called "Dead Spiders"?
If you decide to play you can be involved as much as you like. If you wanted to, you could just create the character and that's it. The others will make decisions for you and you can read what happens to your character. So the involvement in this game is creating a character and help make some deicions on what the party do as a whole. For instace if there's a group of orges near by, we could a)go and inspect them b) have our thief try and steal from them c)Probably Vix's suggestion of charging at them with weapons in the air thirsty for orge blood heh.
