Today i played an xbox , in toys r us , i had to wait a while to play it , and i say now that it was
NOT worth it !
first of all the controller...
as many have said it isn't very good , and im sticking with that exact statement. It is just too big for the human hand , even my dad thought it was too big (and he has big hands) , the hand grips have no shape to them , they are basically just 2 rounded prongs , with a couple of triggers on the back.
The joysticks are in the wrong place and so are the buttons , your fingers dont go out that far i tell ya' they just dont ! but the sticks do feel quite nice when you do move them, but the controller itself is nothing to compared to the Gamecube one (before someone says "how do you know" i have one ;-))
Next , the console itself...
To be honest it dosent look too bad , it may be a bit on the bulky side , and that bix X jewel does look a bit gobby , but it's ok. It's not the best looking console by any means , but it doesn't look as bad as many claim it too.
The games...
The main part of any console is the games.
Im being totally honest here when i say they are Krap.
First i had a go at project gotham , the cars look ok , but not much difference from GT3. The accelaration on them is so slow , and the cars are slow aswell , i was going down a straight , holding down the accelaration button completely ... ive seen faster vehicles on f-zero on the Gameboy advance for peets sake !
I had a quick go at amped , which i wasn't to impressed with...
The graphics are pretty good , but not ground braking , and also , when i crashed, when the guy went to get up , the game paused slightly while he was half way getting up , only suddenly , but enough to notice , then continued , which i wasn't impressed with. This happens on alot of games on the playstation , but i didn't expect it from the quote " MOST POWERFULL" unquote games console.
Then i had a go at Halo , if this is xbox's AAA title , then Goldeneye (on the n64) is a AAAA. It is no different to goldeneye or perfect dark ! The graphics are ment to be out of this world , which in the cut scenes they are , but during gameplay , they are just over rated, bog standard First person shooter graphics.
basically what i am trying to get accross here , is that xbox sucks ! simple , the control does nothing for the machine or the games , the games aren't exactly the best ever made , and that juddery thing on amped really showed that it is just a horizontal PC !
Maybe it will get better , but at the moment it is no different from any other console , i have yet to see what the gamecube can do (in front of me) which i should be able to do in a week or 2 , (i have the games , the memory card , an extra control and all the other bits and bobs , but no gamecube ;-( )

im interested to know what console you'll be getting.
you keep going on about people being biased and i believe i read in another post that you have had lots of consoles so out of all your consoles which was your favourite.
Now if you tell me that you didnt have a preference then i know your lying.
So you liked every single one the exact same?
An exact equal share of your preference divided between them all?
That mean your not human.
You can look at the whole situation, weigh up all the factors and then make a decision, that is not being biased.
being biased is to make your decision before even seeing all the consoles (which i have allready done)and then ignore new facts as they arrive.
To be biased is to go on your pre-conceptions.
My opinion is as such so far.
X-box
Pros
-ethernet adapter
-hard drive
-technically the fastest machine (although im not convinced the most powerfull i.e athlon xp 1.33mhx is better than a p4 1.4 chip, it does more with what its got)
-large number of developers on board and easy to develop for
-plays dvd's
-plays all region games out of the box (i think)
-HALO i love fps's
-excellent sound capabilities
-if you dont want to use teh dvd its not added as part of teh cost (price of remote covers royaltys they would have had to charge if the machine could play dvds out of the box)
-large number of release titles
Cons (where to start!!!)((that was a very biased remark!))
-over priced for what it is and in relation to competition
-although fastest console,i feel, graphics on games are average and not much better than the other consoles
-poorly designed controller (japs get a small one for there small hands did you know?)
-have to buy a dvd remote for dvd to work
-many titles are out on or coming out on PC (this is only a negative for some whos pc's would easily run x-box games when they are ported over and most likely play them woith better graphics and frame rate etc.

Pros (where to begin)
-Price!
-nintedno are an excellent first part developer (literal fact) and previous experience in market
-a powerfull console in relation to competition
-2nd party developers also renown for excellence
-intuitive design control pad
-excellent launch line-up
-fast load times due to propietary disc technology
Cons
-nintendos arrogance at times!
-dont value the european market, and have a terrible
-has, in the past, gained a reputation as a young persons console (my belief is that if anyone actually thinks about what this means they wouldnt be able to say why they said it. What makes the cojnsole kiddyish? i think it should be changed that many of the games are aimed at being fun rather than trying to create life-like realistic games that may appeal to more adults).

wandering blade , i did actually back up my reasons for not being too impressed with the Xbox, so why am i biased ? and whats all this about gamecube not having support ????!!!!
it has just as many developers developing games for it as xbox (maybe not ps2 as that has been out for a year) and is tempting more and more developers every week , alot of games we dont even know about , so gamecube has tons of support. AND it has the support of classic developers like rare , factor 5 , and nintendo itself , which no other console can boast !!!

Well, the magority of people don't have enough money to get all console's so the one they choose, or buy is the best. Not many people are biased now as they were.

regardless of this, both will sell massively (the PS2 already has), both will boast some brilliant games etc.
GC if you really must know, in my opinion, is the most balanced console, it has some of the most ENJOYABLE games around, and, as did the n64, pairs best with my PC which plays the best xBox and PS2 games - Halo, GTA series, FF series...

I have a PS2, so obviously I know about that.

I have a PS2, so obviously I know about that.
As for XBox I have played it extensively with a friend who imported it with Halo, Oddworld, PGR, DOA3 and Amped. So I do know at least a bit about it, OK?

call me biased too if you will, but the xBox is an awful system, the controller is way oversized to match the also oversized console...
the games do seem dodgy...
ps2 is good... but not perfect...
GC is also very good... again not perfect, but my choice above the others...
i dont even include Sega's "consoles" if you can call them that...
PC's also very good, especially for certain games such as FPS and RTS, nothing compares...
And thus to reflect my opinions i have a PC, will get a GC, and play my friends PS2's with joy...
