Ready for this? Sure, we've thrown more numbers at you in the last few days than a conference of mathematicians discussing the latest quantum giga-flux theory, but we've got another batch for you - perhaps the most visually shocking of the lot.
Australia is the setting - sun-kissed home of natural beauty and natural home of sun-kissed beauties - and the Christmas sales figures for the big three consoles are in.
No surprise at the top, with PS2 securing around 84,477 sales during the last three weeks of December. Microsoft came second, with the Xbox finding its way into a decent 45,939 tinsel-draped homes.
And then there's Nintendo. Ah, Nintendo! We love you, we really do. A fine machine with some of the most creative and downright playable games on the planet. Home of Zelda, Kirby, Metroid, Starfox and, of course, Mario. How did the GameCube sell during the Christmas period in the land they call Oz?
5,846. Five thousand, eight hundred and forty six. Xbox sold over forty-five thousand. GameCube failed to break six. Barely 3% of the overall market share. Hum.
Reasons? Well, if we're to believe EA's Bob Katz, Nintendo's "disappointing reluctance to compete" was behind the shortfall. Katz's comment may also explain why EA started to reduce the price of its games towards the end of last year - simply not enough numbers to do good business.
Will 2003 prove any different? Regional analysts seem to think not, but we can only wait and see.

Compare the list of top class exclusives for the Gamecube and for the PS2 and I think the results say it all really.
You've used the same boring 'gameube gets 2nd hand game'for a so bloody long now, it really getting very boring....a bit like you personality really. The fact is that Gamecube gets superior versions of the majority of 3rd party games, Need for Speed being one of few that was better on PS2....only becuase it was a very lazy port though.

Is that right 150 games wow that is amazing and of that how many of the them are any good.
Because the public don't seem to think there much cope. Then again most of them are PS2 ports like Burnout, G3 extreme, MOH, Timesplitters 2. NFS2, Spiderman and on and on the list goes. The truth is the public are sick of the same old secondhand coming out on the GC and with how long it takes to get so called quality titles out, the games industry has moved on Nintendo have not.

Much as I hate to join in these arguments, that simply isn't true.
The N64 games widely regarded as amazing were not regarded as such because they were the only good titles in a small selection, but because they were some of the best releases on any console at the time. You only have to look at the sales figues to see that.
Despite the ratio of N64's to PSX's being about ten to one against Nintendo, these games still topped the charts above every Playstation game around at the time.
Read any multiformat magazine from that time and they'll all agree that some of the N64 games were truly outstanding.

As usual you're not making sense. If 30 were good, then 70 would be ****.

> good because that represents there whole games library.
Even after telling you about 5 times, you still can't write properly - it's "THEIR" you **** NOT "THERE". And look at the list of GC games on SR's own site - they are over 150 of them. Not bad for a console released only 8 months ago...an average of nearly 20 games a month.
So what can we ascertain? You don't know how to write good English and you make no sense. Well at least you're true to form.

But how many of these games are REALLY good. Not just quite good I mean REALLY good? I can count them on one hand and seeing as the PS2 has been out over 2 years that's not reallyt very impressive is it?
> That's the thing with us PS2 fans we get the choice.
Yes you get choice of dull or duller.

You can go on all you like but the fact of the matter is the PS2 has so MANY MORE GAMES than the others this is an irrelevant argument the N64 games I mentioned represent most of a few quality titles that ever come out on the system.
That's the thing with us PS2 fans we get the choice.
For every 100 PS2 games there might be 30 that are any good, but that still leaves 70 quality titles.
The trouble for GC is that for every 10 GC games they all have to be good because that represents there whole games library.
My point is that so few quality titles came out on the N64 that the ones that did were elevated to superstar status.

PS2 Fans:
Stick to the argument that since the PS2 is the biggest selling console in the world it's the best console with the best games, rather like saying since Girls Aloud is at number one, they must be the best "band" in the world. Make next console a multi singing, dancing machine with a coffee maker thrown in for good measure and harp on about new "Euphoria" chip which amounts to nothing at all rather like the much lauded "Emotion Engine".
Bury head in sand and put all your hopes in Nintendo. They will sort it out - say it long enough, it might come true. Come on Nintendo, don't treat Europe like dirt. Come on, be a player in the market, offer competion to Sony and MS. Please use DVD on your next console, o go on, please.....and don't take forever developing the darn thing, get on to the market on time. More variety of game's, and please, please let people know whats going on (a bit of hype).
XBox fans.
How much memory has this one got fitted - can i upgrade it, what i need to download a patch over broadband. How much will that cost (££££££££££££££££££). What do ya mean, BB isn't in my area? O, this is Xbox 1.1.2 - good job as Xbox 1.1.1 was rubbish. Anyway XBox 2.0 will be out soon. Don't forget the DVD Remote!

It won't suprise you all to hear that he likes Star Trek, the fact that he has the audacity to call someone else a nerd is just hilarious.
