Yes, it`s been done before.
No, it won`t be as lond as the FOG version.

Why am I trying it out anyway?

The XBOX forum is a very interesting place to be, but it can also be a little quiet. I though perhaps if we had a topic with several hundred replies lurking at the top, things would look more popular.

Feel free to use the topic to talk about anything. Either the latest XBOX game, latest ideas for including some female star in a game etc... or even just the usual chat that happens all over.

As I expect this to fail, I`ve decided to spend a little while pushing up the replies. No spamming, just lots of nonsense :-)

Any help would be great, it`d be boring to have a whole topic with replies from only me.

Just got MechAssault from a shop in town :) Only £39.99 so that £1 more than SR. If it was £44.99 then I wouldnt have bothered, but £1 isnt much. So going to have a go on single player for a bit to get use to it, and then have a crack on XBox Live tonight.

Well thats the only moany review I've heard on Phantom Crash then - everyone else has been praising it up. I'm a fan of mech games anyway so its my kind of thing.

Anyway, Phantom Crash is basically the mech version of Gran Turismo - but apparently with a lot more depth to the customisation of the mechs compared to GT3's cars.
The game is set in a polluted and deserted Tokyo city - the population of the city have moved into a domed city (Neo Tokyo) on the outskirts of the old one.
However, a sport/hobby thing has started up where wireheads (name given to people who compete in these events) are taking their mechs into the old city for multi mech battles.

Like in GT, you start off with a small amount of cash to get you started. There are something like 3 different companies that sell mech bodies of different styles. I think there is a Japanese company that produces more stylish anime/manga style mechs, an American company who give off more of an industrial look with their mechs and a European company that hovers in the inbetween of the other two.
From here you can visit shops that sell all manner of different things to add to your mech such as weapons, music soundtracks to listen to as you fight, AI (a computer partner that gives you advice as you fight and takes the form of a picture of a family pet style thing such as a dog, cat, hamster, mouse, etc), optic camaflague and even air conditioning !

For the players that want to dive more into the customization though, you can buy things such as arms, legs, heads, etc seperatly - so you can basically build a mech from the ground up to what you want. You also get to pick your mechs colour and stickers can also be added apparently.
The AI chips you also pick can be upgraded over 99 levels from what I've heard.

As for the action, its basically battling with other competitors mechs with a 4 player option available - so I'm guessing you can pit your latest treasured mech against your friend's.
There are different types of battling - it can be compared pretty much to GT3's races. You have the small sunday style battles where you just jump in and earn some cash and the bigger league style battles where you face the big boys to be noticed. ;-)
Apparently you need to watch yourself in the little cash earning battles though. Its sometimes a good idea to pull out of a battle when you've earned some cash rather than try and last for the whole thing because you have to pay for repairs on your mech.
At the end of the day, its basically a hobby style thing with an image like an extreme sport. ;-))

The latest mags have been reviewing it - the official mag and the latest XBM give the best detailed reviews. X-Gamer also covers it, but its only a short review and doesn't really explain it all in much depth though. But all three mages gave it at least 8. I think its even made "X-Box Elite" in the official mag. :-)

I'll definatly be grabbing it this Friday if its out like I was told. :-)
From what I've read about it all, if theres a sequel to come, its a game that screams out for X-Box Live. Imagine pitting your own mech against other peoples from around the world along with an online shop that offers even more parts and items to spend your money in the game on. :-)
