According to news on the BBC ladies are not buying enough games because they are not targeted/catered for well enough:

so I just wanted to find out if many females frequent these forums ?

As I worked in an arcade for some time, I hate them with a passion.

Some of my greatest days were spent on Daytona USA. At a time when home consoles could'nt rival their arcade counterparts, 8 player Daytona was one of my favourite games...

Not to mention all the other ones in the 80's - Operation Wolf, Cabal, Golden Axe, Sunset Riders etc.

Not these days. In my local sleaze emporium (AKA the arcades) girls mess about playing those dance mat games and that arcade game where you're in a canoe...

I've yet to meet a girl that liked arcades.

Smelly kids with long hair hang out in arcades...

Female gamers are not rare, it's just I think they prefer the arcades to actually sitting at home and playing a game. Consoles are sold as boys toys, that's just the way it is. I've had to wait my turn a few times when women are having a go on my favourite machines (usually Dance Dance Revolution actually).

I bet they are made to feel self conscious too, by articles like that and threads like this.
