Hi guys,

Freeola is planning an ADSL launch in the new year. I would appreciate it if could post any comments as to what you'd like to see with this service.

If you are having a particularly good or bad time with an existing provider then tell us what impresses or annoys you and we'll try and incorporate as much as possible into our own offering.

What do you currently pay and is it monthly, quarterly or all up-front.

Does your current provider block certain ports?

Does it go very slow at night?

Look forward to reading your comments.

I'm not sure if this would be a good idea on your side, or if it's possible ..

but does ADSL have to be a monthly payment??? Could you not have this as a per minute service like you currently have, as I would much rather have that than pay £30 per-month for something I wouldn't use that much. The only reason I ask is because I am happy with paying per minute for the net, it's just that as Dial-Ups are so slow, that it works out sheaper to pay monthky, but if I had the ADSL thing, things wouldn't take as long to do .. Uploads, E-mail, Downloads etc..

So, would it be possible to pay a one-off fee (perferably a cheap one) for the required hardware/oftware and then pay per minute for the use???

Hmm. Don't remember that. It seems stupid, even to me.

Heh, I'm aware that the NTL cable service is also capped at 512kbps, but I regularly get 70k/sec and sometimes more. Some of the figures Rob has seen are definately false (112k/sec from a user of the same 512kbps service? No.), but it does go above the cap sometimes.

I know I get ~6kbps on a 56K and I've seen people get 80kbps on ADSL. Don't ask me whether is tas measured in KB or kb, I wasn't paying much attention.

Turbo how are you going to get 80 kilobytes a sec out of a 512 kilo bits a sec modem? There are 8 bits in a byte and so 512 divided by 8 equals 64. If your download says you are getting any better then that it is most likley lieing. Or your provider has mucked up your line instalation and is provideing you with a faster service.

Yes please, that would be nice.

On a serious note though, we won't be limiting ports so that's something to be excited about!
