My first is in biscuit but never in cake
My second's in awesome but not in great
My third is in mother but not seen in dad
My fourth is in sunny but never in sad
My fifth is a vowel found in water not creek
My sixth is found only in one day of the week
My seventh's two of three that you learn when you're young
My eighth's not in song but it's there when it's sung
My ninth's in eleven and twelve, not thirteen
My tenth is in island and river, not stream
My eleventh's in precious and secret and paste
My twelfth is in phantom and spectre and haste
My whole stalks the night in a quiet dreamlike state
With no memories the next day of being out late

Usuing your rules:

If A did it then so did B
If A didn't do it neither did B

If A did it so did C
If A didn't do it neither did C

If B did it so did C
If B didn't do it neither did C

If A did it so did C
If A didn't do it neither did C

so either A,B and C were all in on it with or withgout the aid of D, or D must have done it himself. There is no way to tell which of these options is the correct one.

That's what I did a few posts down, but it's not the quickest way, which is what the question asked for.
it takes 16 mins, but the quickest is apparently 9 mins using triky "turning over the timer before it's finished" tactics.

2 minutes, or 120 seconds if you like,
then two minutes to post my reasoning

I had the boiling topscore one different.

Start both timers, then when the 4 runs out start it again. Put topscore in when the 7 runs out, leaving 1 in the 4, and then when the 1 runs out, turn the 4 another 2 times.

How did you get D, ros?

if A's first is true, b didn't do it
and B's first must be true so C didn't
and C's first must be true

so only D is left

If A's second is true B did it, so C must have done it as C's first is false.
Assuming only one culprit it must be D

or did I miss something?
