My first is in biscuit but never in cake
My second's in awesome but not in great
My third is in mother but not seen in dad
My fourth is in sunny but never in sad
My fifth is a vowel found in water not creek
My sixth is found only in one day of the week
My seventh's two of three that you learn when you're young
My eighth's not in song but it's there when it's sung
My ninth's in eleven and twelve, not thirteen
My tenth is in island and river, not stream
My eleventh's in precious and secret and paste
My twelfth is in phantom and spectre and haste
My whole stalks the night in a quiet dreamlike state
With no memories the next day of being out late

Okay, seeing as all the others have been answered, here's the new one.

A cop arrested four suspects for the bank robbery. When he interviewed them, each made two statements. From his infrared lie-detector he knew that each man made one "true" and one "false" statement. As a result, he soon found out the culprit.

Given the following statements, can you determine who the culprit was?

‘A’ said: “I did not do it. B did.”

‘B’ said: “A did not do it. C did.”

‘C’ said: “B did not do it. I did.”

‘D’ said: “C did not do it. A did.”

Did you originally change it to IB, then change your mind?

I didn't need to, it's implied because otherwise he might reveal the prize and then you wouldn't be able to give you the option to change.

Damn it! Remind me not to attempt to change around the original questions/answers again. Yes, it originally referred to an egg...not Top Score. I changed it around because if you can relate to it more, there's a better chance of solving the puzzle. (allegedly)

No flies on you, Ros!

When you make you initial choice, you have aone in three chance of having chosen the correct box. One of the boxes being opened means that you have not chosen one of the two boxes without the prize, yes?

Seeing as you chose one box, and there are two boxes without the prize, it follows that you already knew that at least one of those two remaining boxes had no prize in. You're just being told which one. The box is not being removed from the problem, it's just been opened. Your chances do not change because the scenario has not changed.

If the box was revealed before you made a choice, the problem changes because you gain knowledge which affects you choice. As it is being revealed afterwards, the problem is not changing because you are not gaining knowledge.

To put it another way, assume the host doesn't open a box, and allows you to take both of the other two as your choice. Obviously you should, as your chancs will be 2/3.

By his instead opening one of the boxes without the prize and offering you the other, that is what he is effectively doing.

Some exaples to make it simpler...

Three boxes, A B and C. Box A conmtains the prize.

1)If you choose box A, the host opens either box B or C.
2)If you choose box B, the host opens bob C, offering you box A
3)If you choose box C, the host opens box B, offering you box A

Best results:
1) Don't change
2) Change
3) Change

As your choice is random, there is a 2/3 chance that changin will be best.
