As a first-time Nintendo owner, maybe someone can explain the history of this title to me; why is it seen as such a major title, and why are people dashing out to buy Gamecube's to play it?
Don't get me wrong! It *is* a very good game, and I am enjoying playing it, but while it's fun, for me there's certainly nothing particularly outstanding about it.
By that I mean it is definitely a game worth owning, but - and remember, this is just my opinion - it's not a game worth specifically buying a 'cube to play.
For me, there are already better games on Gamecube that people *didn't* rush out and buy the machine to play.

That's what I did. Scanning it, you get some info about it having a 'soft underbelly' which is prone to damage by 'concussive blasts' - or something like that.
Of course, once you get the Plasma Beam, it's a whole different matter! :-)
In which case, feel free to stand there pressing the Y button doing absolutely nothing while it stamps you into the ground.

Let him advance towards you and he should breath blue flames at you. Press left/right and double tab B to dash to the side out of the way, then dash back in front of him when he's finished exhaling (he should be panting) and quickly fire two missiles (that's all you'll have time for).
Repeat until death.
If he charges instead of using the flames then just dash to the side and get behind him, and wait for him to turn round.
Don't ever shoot your normal shots. And if you're really lucky, sometimes he might just stop and start panting anyway, in which case fire two missiles as normal.
The one where you have to beat 4 regular ice monsters, then you get a big one that soaks up energy to spit it back at you.
A scan pointed out that you have to shoot him in the face after he spits stuff at you, but this only seems to hurt him (make him flash red) a fraction of the time, and only when done with missiles. The rest of the time the missile or beam just seems to power up his spikes.
So how do I dispose of this ugly excuse for a thing?
