The "General Games Chat" forum, which includes Retro Game Reviews, has been archived and is now read-only. You cannot post here or create a new thread or review on this forum.
Anyway, from the entries we did receive, Dr.Duck wins for his in-depth look at the logistics of the chain e-mail and The Game wins for his 'matey' writing style. Well done both of you! You can both choose a Game or DVD from our database up to the value of £25!
-----------------------------------------------------
It's time we got up to some mischief.
What we need is a Chain e-mail letter. One of those things which arrives at your address and then you forward it to thirty six of your mates and two weeks later a freebie arrives through your letterbox.
Imagine that for each new member who joins Special Reserve we have a couple of quid to pay for rewards.
THE ORIGINATOR send the e-mail to 10 friends.
The ten friends can either JOIN or PASS.
To PASS they must send the e-mail on to another 10 friends, but just as favour to the ORIGINATOR.
If they JOIN then they can become an ORIGINATOR and send off their own e-mail to 10 friends.
With luck one originator will get their message across to quite a lot of people - especially if the message is interesting or humorous enough for people to pass on.
For each person who joins, we send the originator a £2 voucher towards games and stuff.
(the above is just a simple first stab at this to suggest the possibilities)
This contest is two-fold.
You can win one EXTRA GAMEADAY if you can specify exactly the right way to go about this. Something very similar to the above, but well thought out. An idea which will work.
You can win one EXTRA GAMEADAY if you can write the e-mail for the scheme you outline, or for the scheme outlined above. The important things are to make people join and to be interesting enough to pass the e-mail on.
Competition closes in Mid December.
It's a bit complex to write out your answers and ideas in this thread quite carefully and we'll see who comes up with the best concepts and approaches to this.
Quite a challenge - I wonder if anybody will enter?

Are SR planning to fill inboxes across the country?
The best way to do it would be a 'Friend writing to friend' approach... all this 'PLEEEASSSEEE I need you help' and 'Free Porn!!!' doesn't work... I delete them anyway. (Cue: Stupid, Unfunny Jokes)
The ideal layout in my opinion would be:
Subject: Do me a favour?
Message: "Alright [Recepiant] / Mate! Do me a favour? Please send this e-mail on to loads of people, 10 will do... basically it's to plug my favourite site... they need a bit of support, just to get going... you know! It's www.srdn.com they sell gaming stuff, printer stuff, PC's and all that at low prices... you can win games and loads of other stuff... like DVDs and what-not. Just forwarding it is good enough... but PLEASE take the 'Fwd:' out of the subject headder, or people won't click it, and I really need them to...
If you wanna join you can... it only costs about £7-a-year and you save that much on one purchase alone! Take a look anyway, thanks!
Take Care
Ciao!

Game: Has good ideas....
Also, do you mean "join" SR as a full member, or "join" the discussions by signing up.
If you mean signing up, wouldn`t it just be simpler to ask people you know locally. I have managed to ask about 5 new members to join up over the last year... smuggling jonny, pudding, icklebro/officer119, dark knight and access denied, simply by asking friends, not posting e-mails all round the world.
I`m assuming you mean join special reserve, paying the fee for subscription etc.. in which case, I have no idea. I remember something similar about 8 years ago, where we were offered £5 if we got a friend to join SR.... so why not try that again?
Special Reserve, the BEST value on the net for games and DVDs. You join, and you get big discounts on all the latest releases in the gaming and film world. All it costs is £7 a year. You'll make it back in no time, whether your interest is films or games! As well as this, Special Reserve offers the best forums on the net! Win, win, win! Yes, that's right, 2 Games and 1 DVD are given away every single day - It's all part of the Special Reserve service. Check out:

If you want to join this, write your own e-mail about Special Reserve and send it to 10 other people, and SR will send you a £2 discount on your next purchase. Why not, eh? If not, that's fine, but do us a favour. Forward this onto 10 other people. Cheers.
Et,voila. My first attempt.
