The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time took a whopping 3 and half years to make a Nintendo epic lasting 60+ hours but other than us lot (the hardcore side of the gamers) who actually completed it? I did but I’m a hardcore gamer and quite frankly and sadly hardcore gamers are in the minority compared with Casual Gamers. Millions didn’t complete Zelda I can name 8 off of the top of my head and the few who did I completed some of the game for.
So now it is time for Nintendo to cast away these problems no longer will there games concentrate on the hardcore faction, no longer will games be 60 + hour epics admittedly there will be a few but Shigsy and co. will be working on completely different types of games, more simple, easy and linear. Zelda and Mario on the N64 had great big worlds to explore these worlds will still exist but now set pieces will force you in a certain direction. Evidence of Nintendo’s metamorphosis into a new games company comes in the form of the new Zelda. The New Zelda’s graphics have caused quite a stir but there are many reasons for the use:
1: You’re missing the point it is supposed to appeal to children so it doesn’t JUST appeal to the dungeon and dragon fantasy world giving Zelda a wider audience. Nintendo’s 2nd and 3rd party developers can concentrate on the adult areas.
2: Gives Zelda a brand new original look and
3:Those graphics are quick and easy to do therefore knocking the game out in about 2 years rather than the previous 4!
Also something else the short but sweet Zelda GC video clip showed us was that Zelda GC features many set pieces that’s right making the game play more linear, simpler, and easier. Now before we have Nintendo fans spitting at the “NEW” Nintendo this change in strategy of Nintendo is not a bad one although it does mean less huge epics it does mean more Conker. Conker’s Bad Fur Day the storming Platformer from Rare is a game filled with set pieces pushing you along from place to place, now quite frankly when I think back to what I did on Conker I cannot believe it took me 12 hours! This is because Conker leads you from one set piece to another very quickly like a movie whilst Ocarina Of Time didn’t and so although Ocarina Of Time took me longer it felt like I did much more in Conker.
When you get your sparkling new Gamecube you will spot this change with Luigi’s Mansion a stunning game that you will complete in a weekend (although the casual gamers will take longer), Pikmin is the same it has been called the best Gamecube game out but it won’t take you more than 3 days to finish it! Meanwhile the casual less skilled gamers will take a few weeks longer. So Nintendo have changed, you will see more Zelda, more Mario, more Pikachu, more original titles just in smaller doses so that Hardcore and casual gamers alike can enjoy the next generation of Nintendo games and maybe one day Computer games can be as essential as CD’s, Video’s and Book’s.

The N64 just wasn't good enough to handle what they tried to do with this game.
The graphics were bland, nice water though, the frame rate was pedestrian and this had a telling effect on the playability of the game, it was boring and it just didn't command the respect other Zelda games have.
A return to the brilliance of Link's Awakening would be great, apparently the new GB Zelda games are as good as this, let's just hope that Nintendo return to whatever they use to develop their ideas for those games.
Well, I completed Ocarina of Time, and Majora's Mask. Muahaa...
Ahem. I also got completely decked at Mario Kart, killed all of my friends at Goldeneye and enjoyed Rogue Squadron. So I am now a 'casual Ninty' because my sister has a PS1, I have an N64, I've played them both and I prefer the N64, honestly.
Doesn't mean I'll be entering the Ninty forum where normal people dread to tread. On the other hand.. No, be strong.
I get annoyed following a path to complete somthing.
Good topic dringo
