The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time took a whopping 3 and half years to make a Nintendo epic lasting 60+ hours but other than us lot (the hardcore side of the gamers) who actually completed it? I did but I’m a hardcore gamer and quite frankly and sadly hardcore gamers are in the minority compared with Casual Gamers. Millions didn’t complete Zelda I can name 8 off of the top of my head and the few who did I completed some of the game for.
So now it is time for Nintendo to cast away these problems no longer will there games concentrate on the hardcore faction, no longer will games be 60 + hour epics admittedly there will be a few but Shigsy and co. will be working on completely different types of games, more simple, easy and linear. Zelda and Mario on the N64 had great big worlds to explore these worlds will still exist but now set pieces will force you in a certain direction. Evidence of Nintendo’s metamorphosis into a new games company comes in the form of the new Zelda. The New Zelda’s graphics have caused quite a stir but there are many reasons for the use:
1: You’re missing the point it is supposed to appeal to children so it doesn’t JUST appeal to the dungeon and dragon fantasy world giving Zelda a wider audience. Nintendo’s 2nd and 3rd party developers can concentrate on the adult areas.
2: Gives Zelda a brand new original look and
3:Those graphics are quick and easy to do therefore knocking the game out in about 2 years rather than the previous 4!
Also something else the short but sweet Zelda GC video clip showed us was that Zelda GC features many set pieces that’s right making the game play more linear, simpler, and easier. Now before we have Nintendo fans spitting at the “NEW” Nintendo this change in strategy of Nintendo is not a bad one although it does mean less huge epics it does mean more Conker. Conker’s Bad Fur Day the storming Platformer from Rare is a game filled with set pieces pushing you along from place to place, now quite frankly when I think back to what I did on Conker I cannot believe it took me 12 hours! This is because Conker leads you from one set piece to another very quickly like a movie whilst Ocarina Of Time didn’t and so although Ocarina Of Time took me longer it felt like I did much more in Conker.
When you get your sparkling new Gamecube you will spot this change with Luigi’s Mansion a stunning game that you will complete in a weekend (although the casual gamers will take longer), Pikmin is the same it has been called the best Gamecube game out but it won’t take you more than 3 days to finish it! Meanwhile the casual less skilled gamers will take a few weeks longer. So Nintendo have changed, you will see more Zelda, more Mario, more Pikachu, more original titles just in smaller doses so that Hardcore and casual gamers alike can enjoy the next generation of Nintendo games and maybe one day Computer games can be as essential as CD’s, Video’s and Book’s.
Here’s to the Future
Dringo.
Luigis Mansion might be short yes, but take a look at the other Nintendo Titles that are guaranteed to be Mighty/Colossal in length: Mario, Super Smash Brothers Melee and Metroid. And thats not to mention so many other secrets in development.
Today I still have a rattle at Mario Kart 64 and even Mario 64 and they are 4 years old.
Most of that 4 years came from the difficult game engine.
The game engine took 3 months on the Gamecube.
You'd think that Nintendo would have more time for good game design.
Rushing it won't help anything.
It'll just leave what should've been a major Gamecube title become a big disallusional disappointment.
You're agreeing that Nintendo titles should be rushed and half baked so that casual gamers can complete them?
Well that doesn't leave much of a game left for me...
Nintendo, tailoring their games for the casual gamers?
NO DAMMIT!
If they're too crap to complete the game then it's THEIR problem!
Why should we get a cut short game as a result?
I SERIOUSLY hope Nintendo are playing down the hype again because if it's true, then Nintendo have changed for the worst and are going to extend their kiddie image to Gameplay as well as Graphics!
It's understandable if a game is short if the develloper has run out of ideas or time or if there's only so much you can do with the theme.
But to shorten it because most gamers couldn't complete it?
Please don't...
Optical Disks hold 50 times as much as the Zelda 64 adventure. Yet they're putting less into it?
WTF!!
I hoped that Zelda on the Gamecube would be even bigger than Orcarina of time.
Orcarino of time was brilliant, but with bigger and better hardware, I want bigger and better games. I want my moneys worth.
Making it Linear and easy will ruin and trash all the magic that made Zelda 64 so special.
That magic was one of the few things that put it way above the Final Fantasy series!
And they're planning on charging 50 quid for each of these little mini adventures?
I'm not convinced that this isn't a load of anti hype, but if it true, then Nintendo have trully lost it.
Most casual gamers have all rady set their sights on the Xbox or PS2, now Nintendo are planning to shun their hardcore fans?
Either way, it won't stop me from getting the Gamecube as it'll still be the master multiplayer machine, but if Nintendo are planning on making their games "low fat and sugar free" for soft casual gamers, then other than a few third party/Rare masterpieces, it might end up looking elsewhere for my solo playing games...
I hope for the big N's sake that this is just a joke...
On a few other topics, you may notice my cousin leaving comments. Well, I have promised him one more if he solemnly vows to leave me alone.

It's a good post though Dringo, but unfortunately

Well duh what did u think i did make it up? It's written difernatly with a different twist also i made refrences to many other things but yes this post was heavily inspired by the article in NGC its where i found out the info... maybe i should make it up... would any of u notice?
Looks like it.
Remember Resident Evil? Yes, of course you do. That was not an easy game to complete, it took a lot fo time and a fair amount of skill. Yet it sold by the bucketload, cemented itself a place in vidogaming history and had a very wide appeal (almost everyone who plays games). Would more people have bought it if it'd been easily finishable in a day or so? Would they hell.
So OOT being 'too long' shouldn't matter two cents. if Nintendo are trying to give it a wider appeal by making their games shorter an easier, they're going hideously wrong.
It's a good post though Dringo, but unfortunately ive read it all in this months NGC.
Link's Awakening was a better game.
