Take doom for GBA. In its day, doom was the most violent game ever made. It was resident evil and half life in one.
Even today people try to use it as an example of a 'bad' game.
All nintendo have done to make sure they can sell this game to little 5 year olds is make the blood green and the bodies fade. Toddlers will still be chain gun cha-cha ing imps to death, and playing with the BFG. No one under 8 should be allowed near this game. There is a limit people. I wouldnt let my little nephew play resident evil, it would mess him up ALOT. Censorship is over done these days, but small children do need protecting.
well if you care about small children it has quite a good point.
Obviously you dont.

Yes but a 15 bbfc rating does stop almost all of them. I

Ok, lets go by your example....
Doom is too violent for 5 year olds.
True.
However Doom isn't designed for 5 year olds is it? Just because it's on a Nintendo machine, it doesn't mean every child in the world is going to buy this game.
Doom, as someone has already said, was released on the Playstation. Now the Playstation, in it's day, was the best selling console (other than the handheld GBC) and so many kids would've had it. So many kids would've had the opportunity to buy the game then and play it.
Not to mention the PC. In Guinness Book of Records '97, it mentions Doom to be the most well known PC game of all time! That's because there have been so many re-releases, shareware versions, freeware versions that it has become so widespread. So, even though the PC version had an 18 certificate (IDKFA anyone?) it was still played by younger kids then.
So does that mean we should stop making violent games on the off-chance that kids might play them?
hmmm....let me see what that would mean.....
Goodbye Resident Evil series
Goodbye Metal Gear Solid series
Goodbye ALL FPS's
Goodbye Super Mario games (there is a mild degree of violence in Mario games)
Goodbye Tomb Raider series (Wahoo!)
Goodbye RTS's
Goodbye Sci-Fi Flight Sims
Goodbye to a large range of other types of games not mentioned here.
Let me just remind you that young children have also had the opportunity to play Doom on the Atari systems (either Lynx or Jaguar...can't remember which), SNES, Mega Drive, and many other consoles and computers that have been available in the past. There are so many violent games out now that it'd be hard for a parent to pick the right sort of game for a young child.
There are some games that a 5 year old could play for the GBA instead of Doom:
Jurassic Park III: Park Builder
Super Mario Advance
Tony Hawks Pro Skater 2
Denki Blocks
Harry Potter
and many more.
So don't worry about what kids are playing what, chances are that with the lack of supervision parents give nowadays, they've already played a lot worse!
But still better they play an 'unrealistic' shooter like doom, than a realistic one like Perfect Dark where you shot 'real' people with realistic looking guns, etc.

hahahahaah.
I wish. I have a 300mhz pc.
But why did you name the topic Nintendo-

Ninty are the ones who censored the game, and ninty are the ones selling it to any little baby who walks in the door. doom is a violent game, where it is kill or killed. I sure as hell wouldnt let a 5 year old play doom, would you?
I would much rather have the 15 (or even just a 12) bbfc rating and the red blood/corpses thank you very much.
