Nintendo - seller of games to children, or evil child corruptor?

Take doom for GBA. In its day, doom was the most violent game ever made. It was resident evil and half life in one.
Even today people try to use it as an example of a 'bad' game.

All nintendo have done to make sure they can sell this game to little 5 year olds is make the blood green and the bodies fade. Toddlers will still be chain gun cha-cha ing imps to death, and playing with the BFG. No one under 8 should be allowed near this game. There is a limit people. I wouldnt let my little nephew play resident evil, it would mess him up ALOT. Censorship is over done these days, but small children do need protecting.

Like hell would it.

Don't you remember being a little kid? Being allowed up late occassionally to watch a horror film?

Mind you, horror films always kind of seemed less frightening when I was little, as my dad kept bursting out with laughter....

But anyway, I say if a little kid wants to play scary games, let him. If it scares him, he'll stop playing.

Oh but of course we can't do that, because we'll raise a generation of mass murderers and serial killer, won't we......

Yep I agree,
All the rubbish about video games corrupting live is purley a load of £%@!*. The people that say this are the same people that say looking at TV damages your eyes. If your eyes taking in light is dangerous than they would not have complained.
Did anyone see a newspaper article about a little kid that threatened his mum with knives and stuff. They said it was a nintendo console but in the picture the 'very stupid' kid was holding a playstation controller! More lies from the people that think games damage!!!!!!!!
I can see a weak line how people can say that video game shoot 'em ups can corrupt kids but it is extreamly small and it is normally other issues that make people into mad gun toting mad men!

I was banned. Read all the stuff on the unfair trade ban post. It was my fault, but i wont let it happen again.

So feel free to say what you like, just steer VERY clear of ireland ok?

Anyway my point was that doom has only been slightly cnesored, yet all its restrictions have been dropped. I just dont like 3 year olds playing a game that has a violent theme. In the end it is the parents fault what happens to the kid, but nintendo should try and help a little.

Dunno, but it looks like he put up one heck of a fight to prove a point that wasn't worth pointing out.

Fair enough, kids shouldn't play games with violence in them, however, every hour we are ment to take a break from TV's and gaming, but do we? I severely doubt it.

If parents are happy to let their kids play Doom for the Game Boy Advance then it's up to them, it's really none of our business what other parents decide.

I played Doom in my pre-teen years, infact, to me, that was the best time to play Doom.

I was young, didn't have a care in the world, and had the chance to vent some energy on killing aliens who had invaided Earth.

The only time I felt scared at all was when I went round the corner and a fireball went stright into my face unexpectedly, and I jumped a little, however that didn't make me want to get a gun and start killing people.

You hear stories about "how videogames corrupted my childs life" and how they "turned my son into a mass murderer", but it wasn't the games or the developers fault, it was the parents for letting them play these games, and the children who actually commit the crimes.

At one stage books were considered evil, putting thoughts and pictures of gruesome scenes into people's minds, and so was radio, and even television. Gaming is just used as an excuse.

Basically, let the parents decide whether it's ok for unrated games to be played by children, those which are rated shouldn't even be able to be bought by the children in the first place.

Ok, I see your point BUT if the parents genuenly do not (definetly) want their kid to grow up and be a phycopathic mental patient then they will do everything in their power to stop the kids getting hold of 15 rated or violent games.
It depends on the first years of life. If a parent raises a child REALLY carefully and makes sure s/he knows what not to do and what the punnishment is then they won't bother/like any violent games.
If parents raise kids with toy guns that have a pretend 'fight' evey night (sorry about the ryming!) they will genuenly grow up with the thought that guns do not hurt. They probably don't know that guns are made for killing. If they did know they wouldn't bother. They grow up think that guns are toys and so turn into maniac's and lust for the gore riddled shoot em ups.
And as you say, if a 4-13 year old gets caught buying a rated game the shop is sued alot of money!

Parent are responsible for everythings there kids do to an EXTENT yes, but when doom was a 15, parents had to buy the game FOR the kids. This meant kids couldnt get it if they had lazy parents, or if their parents were smart.

However, anyone can walk into any game store and buy doom. A three year old could legally do it. The parents may never know the kid bought the game. That is my point.
