Nintendo - seller of games to children, or evil child corruptor?

Take doom for GBA. In its day, doom was the most violent game ever made. It was resident evil and half life in one.
Even today people try to use it as an example of a 'bad' game.

All nintendo have done to make sure they can sell this game to little 5 year olds is make the blood green and the bodies fade. Toddlers will still be chain gun cha-cha ing imps to death, and playing with the BFG. No one under 8 should be allowed near this game. There is a limit people. I wouldnt let my little nephew play resident evil, it would mess him up ALOT. Censorship is over done these days, but small children do need protecting.

I would prefer it if you didnt advertise your own discussions inside of mine. Its a bit rude.

I have recently found out that nintendo have added a few more censorship details in doom gba:

1) bodies dissapear

2) Green blood

3) you cant blow people up like before. Usually a good barrel or rocket explosion would make most zomiemen tuen into large red rib cages, but after playing the start of level 8 (which starts with a platform with 8 barrels and 8 zombies) i can confirm this has been removed.

4) when you get beaten up your 'face' on the info bar doesnt bleed like before.

I can understand why the bodies dissapear, the processor is performing enough marvels already. I am just annoyed that nintendo chosse to deprive us of the origninal doom style, with red blood, bodies which helped us to not get lost, and amusing 'BBQ' ribs and give us a version which annoys us, but is still too violent for kids. (you can still chainsaw people and watch them die and bleed) I really dont see the point. I hope there is a cheat to bring back all the stuff nintendo removed. If you know it, please tell me.

I do agree with Edwin, and the only thing I was debating about was whether it is Nintys fault or not. I still think the developer is more to blame, but Ninty shouldn't have their seal of quality on it when all ages can go around killing demons etc.

PS- Is Nintendo really evil?

To find out go to FOG chat and read my story 'Invasion of the Poke-It-Ons'. It is (at the moment) two episodes , but will be added to at least once a day with another episode for your reading pleasure, until the story is complete. Today I have posted two Episodes in the topic 'Invasion of the Poke-It-Ons (Story- All Star Cast)' So go read it and reply. You may even feature.

PS there is another topic that;s the same but Invasion is missing the last N, and it only has episode 1. Let that one die, and just post in the latest one with two Episodes. Cheers.
(sorry, but I really think the story is pretty good and want people to read it cos it is taking ages to write!)

Hmm. I sense some contradiction here.

Seeming as everyone seems to not be able to read and understand my point, i will reiterate s l o w l y.

1) Doom (original) was a 15. This meant that anyone who didnt look 15 would have a hard time buying it. In the USA it was only available by mail order, as the censors didnt want it in the shops. That was how much people feared its effects.

2) GBA doom is available to all, no matter what the age, because Nintendo (or whoever) made the game have green blood and the bodies dissapear. They didnt change the fact that you can still mow people down with a chainsaw, or turn them inside out with a rocket launcher.

3)Little kids of up to 7 yrs of age cannot handle this sort of violence. Jamie bulgers killers anyone?

Im not here to say 'doom is evil' or 'ban all games' because that would be moronic. I am just saying that adult games like doom should only be played by people with the mental ability to realise it isnt real. Kids of 10 can tell its not ok to kill people because you saw it in a game, but kids of a younger age may not see the problem, as young kids learn from all there external influences.

All i wanted was ninty to keep the red blood and the bodies, as this would have made the game more fun, and practically inaccessable to those who are not ready for it.

They check games for quality. That's what the seal of quality is for.

They don't give it age ratings. They leave that for the BBFC, ELPSA and ESRB to do.

My point is we cant stop any little kid buying doom it has no age rating.

And if nintendo SAY they check each game, then they are responsible for the content, even if they cant be a'rsed to keep that promise.

I know.

You really think Nintendo checks every single game on their systems?

It's just games that are developed by authorised developers that get the seal.

That's why Datel's Rocket Games don't have the seal of quality. Nintendo tried to sue them for the cheat carts, lost the case and therefore wont let them officially make games. However, there's no law to stop them making games for Nintendo or anyone else's consoles.

In fact, the nintendo 'seal of approval' on the box

Okay, I concede on that, but still it's not just Nintendo, this was done with carmageddon on PC (replace humans with zombies and have green blood) so it didn't get rated (or that version didn't). I'm sure stuff on the PSX and PS2 that really should not have been allowed for youngsters is out there unrated. I'm simply saying to you that it is not only Ninty.
