"Nintendo's conference was like a retirement home for classic game developers as Toru Iwatani, the brains behind Pac-Man, played on-stage against Mario wunderkind, Shigeru Miyamoto, who is currently working on an all-new Pac-Man title.
Refreshingly self-critical, the assembled masses were told of the mistakes the big N made with marketing the GameCube, and the difficulty the traditionally family-orientated company was having in appealing to modern, gore-obsessed players.
But their president, Satoru Iwata, in a nod to the Grand Theft Auto series, assured Nintendo-philes: "You won't see Mario shoot a hooker".
And while we were assured the GameCube had a rosy future, its successor is already officially in development."

Ummm...N64?
Ok, maybe a little longer than a year but they left that floater in the bowl when Dreamcast owned it.

Hang on a second, that's what you were saying about us.
Sure sure, whatever helps you sleep.
Microsoft showed nothing but about 5 FPS we knew about last year.
Sony announced the PSP and the latest edition to one of the most boring series of games ever, Gran Turismo.
Fact is, the BBC journalist for these things is about 40, and frankly, has the same attitude as an average 14 year old kid. He isn't going to say a game is good unless it looks 'realistic', and anything vaguely cartoony looking he will dismiss as for kids without having looked at it properly or even played it.
If a retirement home it is, then a retirement home is where I'm at.
Now, is it time pills and a massage or are we playing bingo?
They've released a number of game packs, made a much better website than NOA's (which seems to now be following behind in design) and better advertising, which was almost non-existant for the Nintendo 64.
I haven't known Nintendo to ditch a console after a year in Europe ever! They did ditch the Virtualboy for health reasons, but other than that, Nintendo's consoles have sold better than many other electrical goods over the years.

Oh no, the badman is suggesting I dont have a life.

You'll understand eventually why everyone is going mental over Halo 2, cause it does look amazing.
But. Its early days yet....

I think Halo ruled, but yep, I dont think the 2nd one offers anything shatteringly brilliant. But, like Matrix Reloaded, if it's just shinier versions of what I already love, then I dont really mind.
I took ma Xbox to a mate's over the weekend, and they played Halo for the 1st time. Sunday afternoon took him to town to buy his own Xbox, complete with Morrowind, Halo, Splinter Cell and The Thing.
It's the old agage, if it ain't broke, why fix it?

No facts other than Nintendo's history of launching a console, only to abandon it within the year when it becomes all too apparent that European sales dont matter all that much.
Nintendo loves Japan, because Japan likes the sorts of games they produce.
When games are released for the Japanese market, as with Metal Gear Solid, the difficulty levels are reduced because Japan doesn't like difficult games, they like to complete and master something quite easily.
Hence Nintendo concentrate on their Asian marketplace and do next-to-nothing for European gamers.
And even ardent Ninties like Insane Bartender and Dr Gonzo have complained about that in the past.
So apart from history with their consoles since the Super Nintendo (Sega are also the same Asian-orientated company), nope your absolutely right.
People are going absoloutly crazy over the Halo 2 footage, but to be honest I don't understand why they're quite so excited. Don't get me wrong, it looks like a really good 1st person shooter. But it's hardly 'that' amazing.
I've seen posts where people are saying "oooo Master Chief has 2 guns, that's amazing" and "Did you see that cannon fire, it lit up everything it's amazing" and "The scenery's so destructible, it's amazing".
Now don't get mne wrong but I could use 2 guns back in the days of Goldeneye and the cannon fire really didn't look 'that' good. It looks like a really good game and it'll be one of the main reason why I'm getting an Xbox, but it certainly doesn't excite me as much as it does some people and I absoloutly love 1st person shooters.
It's hardly ground breaking.
