Both have slightly lacklustre sport
> collections, however.
Bollards.
There's a really good game for nearly every sport I can think of on both consoles.
Only one's that aren't served well are Tennis and ummmmmmm Swimming?
Indeed - I think you'd be a perfect candidate for a PS2. Tonnes of sports, racing and beat 'em ups - with some decent platformers (Jak & Daxter, Ratchet & Clank, etc) and quirky games (Rez, etc) to boot. If you already have a PS2, however, then it's up to you really.
Xbox has the better beat 'em ups and racers, while GameCube has the platformers and quirky games. Both have slightly lacklustre sport collections, however.
Mario Kart 64 is still my favourite racing game overall.
But don't underestimate Mario Kart, it's the best racing series ever.
It depends really if you want something 'serious' or something that's just plain fun, and the multi-player on Mario Kart is awesome.
It's kind of MSR 1.5
The Xbox has got some great racers and as of yet the GameCube can not compete with the Xbox in this area. Project Gotham Racing is the best racing game I have ever played and its a must purchase with an Xbox console. On top of that there is RalliSport Challenge, Sega GT 2002, Moto GP 1 + 2, Racing Evoluzione and all the usual 3rd party games like Burnout 2 and a few other racing games.
In terms of platform games the GameCube is the daddy. However the Xbox does offer the original experience which is Jet Set Radio Future. As well as that there is Blinx Timesweeper which you should give a rental. Th eonly other great one I can think of is Oddworld: Munchs Oddysee which I class as one of my favourite platform games of all time. It combines humour with excellent adventure sections and some great characters.
The DVD Playback Kit is great and a lot better than the PS2 DVD player. If you plan on getting a 5.1 Dolby Digital system then the setup for the Xbox is very simple.
If you want to know anymore then just ask :)
You don't like shooters, and you like platformers and quirky games.
It sounds more like a Gamecube would suit your tastes. It has the best platformers and 'quirky' could be Nintendo's middle name.
For racers and sports they're pretty even, XBox has got MSR3 and PGR, Gamecube you've got Mario Kart and Waverace, and 1080 Snowboarding should be out by the end of the year. As well as all the usual 3rd party stuff like Burnout 2.
Although there is no DVD playback, I think you should consider it.
