Cannon Fodder was released many years ago a major uproar occurred especially with the subheading being: War has never been so much fun (this game has been recently re-released on the Gameboy Color). Who was to know that 20 years down the line weíd be playing a game where you play a man who steals peopleís cars and randomly beating up and shooting innocent pedestrians? The above might (and should) seem very disturbing to you but some of you will remember killing someone in Perfect Dark, one of the guards who had given up, shaking in fear pleading for you not to hurt him and as you force a bullet into their head theyíll scream ìI donít want to dieî as they fall to the floor.

But Realism is increasing, Star Wars games such as Rogue Leader and Obi Wan are starting to finally look like itís film counterparts, GT3 is extremely close to real life driving it is unbelievable. Soon weíll be able to see the look on someoneís face as we extinguish his/her life, we might see tears roll down the cheeks of a dying victim. Could realism go to far?

Is this the future?

Dringo.

Maybe that is something we will see in the future.
A certain list of things that aren't allowed to be shown or used in games, maybe there is one now where the content of any game is monitored to ensure any unsuitable scenes are not contained within the game.

Hasnt this question been already answered?

The boundries of taste and acceptability have already been definied by the movie industry...

Because of the interactivity, games will probably be given slightly greater limitations...

I'm sure there will still be the odd game released that causes contraversy... as there are movies (and games) release every so often that cause contraversy...

The likes of GTA3 isn't that bad "yet" the graphics may be good but it dosn't go into details about how you kill people, you shoot or beat them thats it. No worse than any bond game, doom, or any violent game that has come before it.
What we need to realise that this market is no longer aimed at kids and teens, there are loads of middle aged adults who get a kick from gaming. If we want to play a game where we have to smash someones face in with a bat does that automatically make us bad people?

Games can get too realistic in my view and maybe take some of the magic out of them that makes some games so great, but I would rather people were killing people in games than doing it in real life. Now that I have had the time to think on it I don't think that killing someone in a game will ever be the same as in real life. For one I don't think any developer would be stupoid enough to make it seem that realistic and also most of us realise it is only a game and that nobody is getting harmed and we are doing it for the fun of the game. Like I said in a previous post there are certain aspects that just don't belong in games, but maybe in the future these will be accepted a little more and some devlopers will include them. But will they actually make the games any better or would they spoil them?

Yes but it is you, when another victim of your gun smashes on the floor you did it, yes it is real and at the moment harmless fun but sooner or later gaming realism can possibly be too realistic???? We soo may be watching and playing stuff we don't want to see.

The point is, you are not playing as yourself in the game. You are playing as Joanna Dark...or James Bond...whatever.

Can you see what i am getting at with this?

You do not feel the consciences of your actions. You are not punished.

I suppose i could expand on this further but i cant be bothered...sorry :p

But lets say its a man like perfect Dark a man screaming i dont want to die what if that man had tears in his eyes the tears shimmering as he shook fearing for his life, that is Perfect dark but what if perfect dark was like today and we had these elements, tears, looking into the victims eyes?
