Lack of talent certainly wasn't an issue with the squad that went to the world cup. They are more than capable of really challenging.

That is true. But if we don't develop our own talent, there never will be. Personally, Rickie Lambert for England...

I think the new rules for the EPL next year may go so way to bringing through talent, although I doubt we will see anything different than we have currently as the rules are fairly open.

Unfortunately, if clubs want to be successful they have to buy the best players. The best players are not English, or even British.

Happy with the sudden increase of points. Didn't know I had the 3-1 to the Argies (nor was I aware that my guess of Tevez scoring first was correct!) Only 8 points between me and dav...so watch it, I'm closing in...

Sven was decent enough. Don't know who I'd put in, but I think the premiership needs more homegrown talent. If that were a case, it would be better for any manager to have a better choice to pick from. Arsenal, Chelsea and liverpool, all guilty of having too many nationalities in their first teams - sure they can play well, but what about the locals? Kudos to Spurs in some respect for having a vast chunk of the team as UK citizens.

I've peaked too early, I've not got the stamina to make it to the final.

Table updated, dav extends his lead once again...

The less said about yesterdays game the better, Chris was right when he said the squad needs to be cleared out of the 'old guard', we have/had a good U21 team and a few of them could help freshen up the team. Fabio needs to stay though, constant chopping and changing of managers never works out, need to stick with one man in my opinion. If he does go, Pearce should get the job, then at least we will see some youngsters coming through.

For all his faults Sven got us to two quarter finals and never lost a game at the two tournaments he was in charge of. The FA should never have let him go.

I could do with a summer job...that would be the bravest thing the FA could do...appoint me!

I'd do it for 1/6th of what Capello is on...and probably achieve better results!

Should Capello resign or be removed?

I'm more than familiar with dismal world cup displays although they are becoming a distant memory now as qualification seems to be an impossibility. On paper, England have a squad I'm jealous of but in reality, it's been a long time since I've seen an England team play good football at a tournament. I'd have to go back to the Bobby Robson and Terry Venables days for that.

McLaren, Sven and Capello seem unable to get these premiership stars to play well together. Perhaps it is time for someone to do something brave like Dragonlance suggests.

So what was the argument for goal line technology again?

That linesman must leave the competition in shame...as from the pictures I have seen, it was clearly well over the line. Graham Poll?

In all fairness the refs have been poor all over the competition - Kaka's shocking sending off for that Nigerian player walking into his elbow for example. I think the world looking on will think FIFA have gone to shambles...

But not blaming the ref for the defeat, by the sounds of it we were shocking, so will just accept that. But it would have been great to have scored just one more!
