I'm afraid I don't know how =( but I'd really like to use a database.

I'm testing a new one now, suprisingly I got it to work. It's still not using a database =( but atleast it shows the advertisers their stats and lets me start and stop campaigns.

It also does lots of other stuff I dont need =S

It'd be much easier than trying to store all your stuff in code somewhere.

Do you know how to write scripts to interact with an SQL database? It's not very difficult to learn.

Yeah, Garin should be nicer to me =( especially after everything I've done for him. *pout*

hard coded I believe.

Yes you're right, I really need to be using a MySQL database. I'm on a shared server at the moment, but I should have everything I need as I'm paying £18 a month for it. I've got 8 MySQL database that are unfortunately gathering dust.

When the time comes I'll move to a dedicated server which is likely to eat up most of my budget.

I'm not really anti PHP =) I tried learning it, but I gave up. Plus most of my other scripts are in Perl.

I imagine for scripts aimed at using a small number of banners they'd just be hard coded. I haven't really been following all the details of the epic journey of your website so apologies if I'm just repeating stuff you know, but if you want such a large number of rotation groups, (along with account based stats) it sounds like you'd be best off using a relational database (like a MySQL DB) to hold all the data and then PHP (or perl if you're really so anti PHP :P) to get it all out and deal with the processing and such.

Well to be honest all I need is to create one or two hundred "rotation groups" where I can submit up to 4 banners in each one and have them rotate. I have a script that can do that, though I'm not sure if it could handle that many rotation groups.

What would really help me, is if I could have these banners start and stop when I want. It would also be wonderful if the advertisers can login and see the stats of their banner. (800 impressions, 92 click throughs so far) If they have more than one banner, then they can have several accounts.

That's pretty much all I need to do. Alot of these scripts I'm finding do far more things then I actually need. Or worse, they wont allow me to have more than one or two rotation groups.

I need lots of rotation groups because I'd make more money selling ads for different parts of my site instead of over the entire site =) Like having banners for French holidays appearing on my pages for learning Mandarin.

Don't suppose you know any perl programers who'll work for a pittance do you Bob? =)

I don't really know what you mean by letting people see how well it's doing, but it shouldn't be that hard to mod it to allow start and finish dates.

Don't want to give Bill anymore of your money huh? ^^ heh not sure when or if I'll upgrade. If I do, hopefully they'll have fixed any major problems.

Actually I forgot I would have to change all the files to .php which I'm not keen on. =(

I have a good perl script at the moment, but it would be nice if it did more. Like let clients see how well the banner is doing. Oh and to be able to choose when campaigns start and finish.

The one that does all that and I tried installing, still doesnt work =( I might try and email the guy.

Aiyaah, it's 2007 not 1997, I shouldnt have so much problems finding a good script.

Yeah, I know it's supposedly easy to do so but that's not really the point. It's the whole attitude. You shouldn't have to phone up Microsoft for permission to upgrade your hardware. You said you're using Pro, though, I note. My problems were with Home.

Yes Machie I'm curious to try Vista to see what's new and stuff. I can't really allocate the space for it right now without extensively changing my entire disk partition setup though I intend to in the future. However, I doubt I will be buying a copy ;)

What's this script going to do exactly, Machie? Does it just choose an ad/banner at random on the page load? I don't know anything about ASP but you could certainly do that easily with PHP

Maybe people don't want to do them in perl anymore. So that leaves me with PHP and ASP.

Which should I go for? I know some of you are PHPers =)
