I've just been looking through the new XBM mag, issue 22, and the line-up of new X-Box games for this year and the beginning of next looks fantastic.

Project Gotham 2
Half-life 2
Freedom Fighters
Colin McRae 4
Conker: Live and Uncut
Driver 3
True Crime
Armed and Dangerous
Star Wars: KOTOR
Soul Calibur 2
Broken Sword
Mafia
Worms 3D
Dead or Alive 4 and DOA online
MOH: Rising Sun
Doom 3
Halo 2
Fable
Shenmue 3
Full Spectrum Warrior
Splinter Cell 2
Tony Hawks Underground

Everyone of those games look to be winners and extremely enjoyable games, and if the rumours are true we could also see a port of Vice City on the way to X-Box, and in this particular mag, they say that GTA3 will be included with Vice City. So to me the future of the X-Box looks very bright indeed and I'm really glad I got it now.

There's the list narrowed down to actual exclusives.

But yes. It is a good line-up. And yes, there'll certainly be a number of games I'll get there.

But the Tony Hawks games are designed with all 3 consoles in mind.

Shenmue 3 can benefit massively from the Xbox harware on offer and seeing what they did with the Dreamcast just makes me wonder how far they will go with the Xbox. AM2 bled the Dreamcast of every available resource when they designed Shenmue and with the extra capabilities of the Xbox I have every faith in them to go out and do the same thing again.

As for the PS2 and Dreamcast bit. pfft, the PS2 really can't hold a candle to the Dreamcast and I sincerly doubt you played the majority of exclusive Dreamcast games on offer. Some people don't even consider the fact that the PS2 has many old Dreamcast games when they rave on about them. The PS2 is leagues away from the Dreamcast in terms of quality exclusive titles. I am struggling to find 7 titles to complete my PS2 collection. I think I have around 16 exclusives on the Dreamcast which I would highly recommend.

No, me, actually.

Back to the shemnue thing on the PS2, i think it'd be nearly as good, i mean a part from the obvious details, there wouldn't be much difference.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4, for example is pretty much the same on all consoles, i mean, you get the same amount of enjoyment out of it, at the end of the day. I agree with Mav, it would be stupid to not even cosider buying my favourite game series, just because it's on a different console. As for the Dreamcast being better than the PS2, i'd disagree entirely. There isn't that many great games on the Dreamcast, in comparison with the PS2.

Shenmue RO>
WOOT!!!

Which reminds me, I bought Shenmue 2 the other week and haven't even played it yet. Damn Xbox Live and its addictive nature.

But do I care about most people?

The fact they are bundling all 3 together suggests to me that it will be the last Shenmue game they make. Therefore sales don't matter. I know the series and love it and I know that the formula which AM2 use fits the type of game I am looking for. Shenmue 3 will be another fantastic game in my opinion and regardless of what scores it gets or who actually likes it I will have ir pre ordered months before release.

The problem with Shenmue 2X was the fact that a lot of Xbox owners hadn't even heard of the series before. A couple of mates at school got Shenmue 2X and found it boring. They played it for about 20 minutes and traded it in straight away. The fact that you were thrown in without a chance to play through the first Shenmue and with a shoddy video demo of all the cut scenes in the first makes it understandable as to why it wasn't a success.

If they decide to go ahead and bundle all 3 together in one package then I feel that things might be different. My two favourite games of all time packaged together with quite possibly my 3rd favourite game of all time is a mouth watering prospect.

Ask yourself, why would you perceive Metroid as being hradcore, yet GTA not so ? Both are good, but flawed design meant Metroid could never become as popular. Arguably the fact players had to constantly scan items for information and the unique control system alienated many. GTA was easy, pick up an play and essentially do as you wish.

Exactly, the design alienates people. MGS2 was a massive hit on the PS2, and despite criticism it sold well, and most were happy with it. It sold a ton of PS2 consoles, yet told a better, to me, story. You say yourself that you have to be a big fan of the series, yet the existing fan base is largely Dreamcast owners and, no offence, but there wasn't really enough of you guys in the first place and not everyone was convinced of the original Shenmue's brilliance anyway.

The fact remains that the story is, to most people, boring.

That's not what he's saying though, is it? He just spouted a loud of unfounded crap about how the PS2 is terrible and he would give up on his most loved gaming franchise if it moved there.

Blatent fanboyism.

I think what Alistair is saying is that the Shenmue series is intended for series gamers, people that play games very often and can appreciate and be willing to spend a lot of time with that type of game. Whereas people with a more general approach to gaming may not be interested in this type of game. Am I right?
