Shigeru Miyamoto is the today the video game equivalent of Mick Jagger. In other words: he is (like Yoshi) - a dinosaur.
Yes, his early games were works of genius, but since then he has produced virtually nothing but sequels and updates. His ideas dried up years ago. Mario 'this', Zelda 'that' - today he's just living off the back of his early originality.
Just what is he working on at the moment? I don't know, but let me take a wild guess: another Mario game perhaps? Another Zelda game? Jeez, change the bloody record! That rainbow world of silly characters has had its day. Move on man!
In ten years time what will he be doing? - I think we know the answer to that don't we?
At the moment we are seeing his old games being rehashed and re-packaged on the GBA and sold for 35 quid a pop. Am I the only person on the planet who thinks this is a rip-off?
To Miyamoto I say this : turn your obviously talented hand to something new, something fresh. Quit resurrecting exhausted ideas from the dust of yesterday's bones. Do something original like you used to. Cease the repetition of old visions. Stop the monotony!
Sure his games are getting more epic, and have better graphics, but he hasn't incorporated new ideas into his games in the ways other designers have.
But there is one underlying point... DOES IT MATTER? After all, Miyamoto's games are almost all extremely playable and immersive. He builds on the ideas of other games designers, and excels. To give an example, Mario 64 became the benchmark for 3D gam,es when it came out.
Despite the unoriginality of the technical aspects of his games, Miyamoto-san can still produce epics. Zelda OTT had many inovative features such as the time travelling. Although this is certainly not original, the way Miyamoto'san uses the feature is brilliant.
Oh, and a note to etila... I'll be watching out for you fellow Sega fan :)
> Nomad, you make an excellent point.
Oh would you just shutup.
Miyamoto loves gaming... the only reason he makes sequels is because:
A) His games (Mario, Zelda) are so good...
B) People love them...
C) It's always good to see how good games evolve... Look at Zelda and Metal Gear Solid...
Miyamoto is nothing but a Hero...
Monotonous?! - If you mean the same monotonous I do you must be mad... you think anyone else could come up with Luigi + Vacuum or Spaceman + Plants, you must be off your head!

Let me guess you like Sony? am I right?
*nelson stylee*
HA HA
Are you mad?
Are you blind?
Are you crazy?
If Shigeru genius boy Miyamoto wasn't around the gaming industry would be a shambles. It's because of people like him that there are a few original games out there. What about Marionette his new game, its going to be a game based around a puppet, god knows how it's gonna play, but if that isn't original then I really don't know what is. As for you saying Mario has had it's day I just laugh at those comments, I can't even be bothered to respond.
And some Games NEEEED a sequel like Banjo-Tooie (well it didnt actually neeeed it) but it has made the game so much better.
And stuff like Expansion paks for the PC, they are sequels in themselves but just add on to the game to save time and money and no body complains about them (apart from the one or two ;-))

Cos (yawn) we've seen it all a million times before.
