If a sudden boom does happen ain't no way they can start and get the stock into the shops for Christmas if that boom happens late november. Either way they are screwed.
On another point, Nintendo are not the only ones lining up for the Xmas Assault. What are Nintendo's prime assets this Xmas, other than Crystal Chronicles, it's first party titles. The very titles that existing Nintendo gamers love, but which have singularly failed in recent times to generate large sales amongst non gamers.
Both MS and Sony will know about this announcement, and be preparing to really finish Nintendo off if they have the chance. I don't think anyone can argue that Nintendo occupies the #2 slot anymore, it's #3. Sony and MS want that to non existent, and both have larger reserves off finance that Nintendo which can be used to make a short term loss by way of price cuts and promotions in order to make life hard for the Cube.
Why?
Because of Nintendo's lack of intelligence and blindness to the gaming world. They think everything will be all fine and dandy - The gamers will love them and buy all the games and 'cubes. When in fact they're ignoring whats happening to them.
MS and Sony are pretty big corporate monsters, Hungry to invest in new technologies, pushing their products to the limits.

Thats what Nintendo is'nt doing.
It's time to get a grip on reality Nintendo - The Gamecube is'nt doing very well at all.
Let's face it; they haven't made half the effort Microsoft have, and they're ahead in sales and profit. I think they'll do it - things look very bright from now onwards in terms of games, they've just got to chuck in a bit more moolah.
Well we're in the mass market now and look whats happened...
I'm not a fanboy - just optimistic about my favourite company.
> The fanboys will be out in force.
We all know that GameCubes aren't selling particularly well outside of Japan and America - so the decision to halt production temporarily is logical and sensible. The only negative affect this will have is that it may damage the image of the console further if publicised in such a way. Such a way is apparent on the BBC website - which is why a lot of you are getting freaked out. Nintendo are not "struggling" as it is phrased in the artical - they are merely failing to meet their own expectations, yet in doing so, are still selling more than Microsoft and making a hefty profit to boot. Whatsmore, they've got by far the best Christmas line up out of the big three, which will undoubtedly be reflected in sales and if the rumoured price drop is made a reality, retailers like Argos will be begging Nintendo to welcome them back. Anyone with concerns regarding Nintendo's short term future would do well to read Dringo's latest topic, which provides a comprehensive and fair view of what we can expect.
What Nintendo have evidently noticed is how games have limited their purchases to a much lower ratio than in the past. Naturally, they're aiming to tackle this problem with the strategy of more products that everyone can enjoy - as Microchips earlier stated, games in the true Nintendo style. So what's wrong? We'll have more games along the lengths of titles like Super Smash Bros. Melee, Mario Tennis, Mario Golf, Pikmin, 1080 Avalanche and others with that great, pick up and play style. In my books, that's many more great games.
But, also, have they said they will cease production of the longer, more detailed games? No. Iwata's expressed a concern, and the solutions will no doubt be quickly implemented - but that doesn't mean their release schedule will be dominated by this, far from it. Bear in mind, that we have the likes of Geist, Metroid Prime 2, Mario 128 and Zelda - all bound to be epics in their own right - to look forward do.
Indeed - I believe Nintendo are going for more of a healthy balance strategy here, and they've got a brief time until the GameCube's successor arrives to test if this pays off in today's market. The results will enable them to enter the next "wars" without a hitch in the business sense, and get back on track to winning their industry back from the dominance of Sony.
Nintendo, are not idiots.
Er, what?
It's had the most consistent flow of quality games than any other console and has a higher ratio of good games to bad games than any other.
What the hell?
I think David Gibbon wrote these.

I'm not at all. I haven't played my Cube for weeks becuase of Xbox Live and in my opinion, it's thier own fault if they fall out of the hardware market for good. They're their own worst enemies and Iwata-San is a fooking idiot.
All I said was I don't think this is the end for Cube, not yet at least. Then Bell went on a mad rant like some possessed rabbit on E.
I have images of him sitting at his computer going bright red with smoke pooring out of his ears like they do in Beano.
