Eidos are to stop making software for the GameCube.
Mike McGarvey, chief executive of Eidos, stated that versions for all upcoming Eidos games will be released for the PS2, PC and Xbox but not the GameCube according to Times Online.
Mike McGarvey from Eidos, the second largest developer in Europe, said "The GameCube is a declining business." He also said GameCube sales contribute a small portion of Eidos' overall profits. "If other companies follow us they will have a hard battle to fight."
Not the best of news at all, seing as the they published great games like Timesplitters 2 and Hitman 2, although hopefully if Free Radical make TS3, they'll find a better publisher (Ninty should just buy 'em anyway)

You mean like Rare, who also referred to Nintendo being their home. Fact is the developers will go where the cheque comes from, it is all about the money.

Probably due to the fact that people are seeing that it's easier and easier to have your machine chipped!
Think Microsoft are doing a Sony.
Release a console that lets everyone easily copy all the games on so that it becomes really popular. Then when you bring out your next console, every man and his dog will buy one!
:)
Whilst Eidos are not as big and powerful as they once were perhaps, any publisher dropping the GC is a bad sign. Overall the GC is just a bit behind the Xbox in terms of sales, but the gap is increasing quickly because the Xbox was the third console originally, but has since caught up.
Another problem with Eidos dropping the GC from Nintendo's point of view is that Hitman 2 and Time Splitters 2 are games that are going to appeal to older more casual gamers. Whilst they are out, any sequel, which is likely I think, will not be. I don't know what Eidos have in the pipeline, but I imagine it is far more likely to be more adult orientated than kid orientated. Once again reinforcing the Nintendo is for kids view that many people already have.
*Emails Nintendo*
*cries*
If we keep Free Radical then there'll probably not be much I'll miss from Eidos, but it's never nice to see more people give up on the console.
Then again, Ninty are a bunch of cheap, customer-raping bum-bandits.
Couldn't have happened to a nicer company.
But I still love their games...
:^S
They refer to Ninty consoles as their 'spiritual home'.
If we can take them to their word, I would say there's every chance of them seeking another publisher, contract permitting, to continue making games for the cube.
(Note also, TS2 was supposed to have the best version on the cube, of the 3 consoles. To sort of back the point up.)
