From Cube-europe.com

Eidos are to stop making software for the GameCube.
Mike McGarvey, chief executive of Eidos, stated that versions for all upcoming Eidos games will be released for the PS2, PC and Xbox but not the GameCube according to Times Online.

Mike McGarvey from Eidos, the second largest developer in Europe, said "The GameCube is a declining business." He also said GameCube sales contribute a small portion of Eidos' overall profits. "If other companies follow us they will have a hard battle to fight."

Not the best of news at all, seing as the they published great games like Timesplitters 2 and Hitman 2, although hopefully if Free Radical make TS3, they'll find a better publisher (Ninty should just buy 'em anyway)

Here's the link if you wanna check it out for yerself:

This is good; instead of dropping the GameCube, the publishers are merely sorting out the wheat from the chaff, giving us a much more consistent catalogue of games.

Eidos doesn't have the rights to publish Free Radical games and Hitman 2 sold VERY WELL INDEED.

Hmmmmmm monkey.

Game by game I see on C-E.

Its ridiculous. There is no way Italian Job is going to sell, because we know it'll be tripe and not worth it even if it was any good anyway.

Cube almost suffers from having such good exclusive games, as they are bought instead of rubbish multi games, like the Italian Job.

Although Hitman and TS2 are both great.

Update:

Eidos are now saying that it works on a game by game basis.

So like Acclaim they haven't cancelled Gamecube games.

Nintendo have a nice supply of games coming through over the coming months... Eidos made 2 games for Gamecube Hitman 2 and Timesplitters 2... Free Radical are now with Activision meaning we lose Hitman...

That is it.

Ah yes, but speculation is nothing to fact.

Whoever's slightly in lead; they're both selling pretty much the same amount.

People look at games; not publishers or developers. The 'Cube has just as good a selection of games than any other, and so people won't care who's changing stance in the industry. It's got a great back catalogue and a great future - that's what's important.

Nintendo are doing well in Japan, and just enough to get by in Europe. In America, it's a little erratic, but fine. People underestimate the GameCube in terms of sales outside of Japan; it's ahead of the Xbox every so often in the US, and at the start of 2003, had sold 100,000 more units in Europe than Microsoft had.

I don't know; from where I'm standing, there's a lot more for me on the GameCube, and probably more system selling games.

As you say though, time will tell.

Miscrosoft's official figures at year end June 30 were 9.4 million Xboxes sold. Now doing a wee bit of arithmetic with their projections for the next years sales means that approximately another million Xboxes have been sold over those 2 months.

It was a mod for half life. It was not a game. This time it is, the multiplayer which is after all the worlds most popular along with a single player. I think it will shift units, and quite a few too.

I don't see Xbox Live

Maybe not, but the number of users is likely to go up a fair bit from the current 5% as that is without any killer online games. But by Christmas there will be several killer online games, PGR2, Counter Strike and Sega GT online, along with the fact that Star Wars KOTOR is Live enabled.

Fable won't be out

Fable, yeah you're right. Don't know about being a big unit seller, but for most casual adult gamers it will make the choice between Xbox and Cube.

I doubt there will be a price drop until around Easter, they don't want to lose anymore coming up to a busy period.

"Where there's smoke there's fire"
If companies stop supporting the GC it looks less attractive. The less attractive it looks then the less sales. The less sales then the less that will want to support it.

Look don't get me wrong, I love Nintendo. But this time was meant to be different. They should have learned from mistakes made with the N64. But they haven't. Support is beginning to dry up, and whilst Nintendo still make great games, people want choice. Nintendo have to take some drastic action as the GC is beginning to fail everywhere outside Japan.

I think the Xbox will have the better Christmas, there is a reason remember that it is known as Xmas :-p but of course, only time will tell.

Is there 'free-roaming' and 'choice of mission' elements to True Crime?

If it's linear I won't be getting it.

Unless it's a lot like Max Payne in which case it might be worth a look...

I was expecting it as well. Maybe because I had purchased Vice City only a couple of days before was a reason behind it but it really fealt like a hurried and bosh attempt to re-create a GTA game.

I was expecting that, but Rockstar need to recognise there's a market for GTA on the GameCube, and it would make a lot of money.
