The PS2 launch day had people queueing for days, even trailing electric sockets to the stores so the can play on the outside.
The GC launch day went with a bit of a fizz, with a couple of small queues.
Evidentally, this shows that the PS2 was more eagerly awaited than the GC. Why is this?

Nothing is early for FM. He has no aspect of time in his world... there is just 'asleep' and 'awake'.
FM, Er-No and myself were up 'til about 4:30 playing Legend of Mir... I died then though... they may have gone on for longer!
The Gamecube launch didn't do to badly at all, and reports are that the second day was twice as good.

Yeah, what he said.
It stands to reason that if there's a limiyted supply, more people will queue to get one, if they can lay in until midday, then pick up a GAMECUBE when the queues are gone, why queue?
Also, the majority of Nintendo 'fans' are smarter than Playstation fans, and would have had the console delivered, to save them having to queue. ;-)

I think it just means that if they can't pick up a GC today, they can still pop back to the shop and get one tomorrow.
Whereas with the PS2, if you didn't get one on launch day you'd have to wait another 3 months or so for the next batch, hence the queues on launch day.
RR5 - never played any of the previous games, so why isn't it worth the money for me.
Tekken Tag - I didn't own any of the previous versions of this either.
Timesplitters - Admittedly not as good as Goldeneye, but still a very good FPS, probably still the fastest FPS around.
SSX - brilliant, a game which will stand the test of time.

I'll write RR5 off as a joke. Tekken Tag is pushing it too, what exactly is worth £40 in that? Considering it is an only slightly altered Tekken 3, which had been played endlessly. ISS is uncannily like ISS on the N64. I hadn't played this title since it's '98 version on Nintendo's console and was struck by how eerily similar they were. And this is supposed to be next-gen... there’s three titles that 10 seconds after booting felt like they’d been played to death years ago.
Timesplitters is simply a poor man's Goldeneye and even then is totally inferior to countless PC FPS - Half Life and Deux Ex are the notables.
Which leaves SSX. An average game lauded as a classic as it’s easy to shine amongst such a lack lustre crowd.

Yamuchi gave Sony a head start in the post 16-bit era for the sake of pride. He further cemented Sony's dominance over his company by effectively baring Sony from ever making games for the N64, again because of pride. In fact, just read any interview with the man - read anything about Yamuchi and Nintendo under his rule and you'll see what I'm talking about.
You never heard of Samurai's falling on their own sword rather than admitting defeat in the guise of an enemy’s weapon? That's the pride that still lives in modern Japan, albeit in a different setting.
