So basically what I want to know is what kind of costs are involved and if there are any other cables/accessories I need to buy.
Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks.
Excellent that's that nearly sorted out, just a few questions and a card to get and I'm done. Thanks again biggles, your help is extremely appreciated and apologises for spamming the thread, my bad >_<
Really is that simple. Well provided you are using Windows 98 or above, which seeing as you already have broadband (BT Voyager USB modem isn't it?) makes me think that you do indeed have 98 or above.
I haven't personally used the wireless on the router yet, it will be a few weeks before I do. But I have used it with my PC and Xbox at the same time and there were no problems at all.
Look at the link and decide if an extra £15 now and a bit of hassle is worth lots of extra funtionality and less hassle in the future.
If you are going to want to link a PC, a laptop, an Xbox, a PS2 and possibly a GC you really have ordered the wrong thing. It'll work, but you will need to swap wires a lot.
This is the router I have:

There's quite a few spaces in there mind. It was under £65 inc VAT last week. That would have been perfect for you as it has the modem built into the router, has 4 ports (1 PC, 1 Xbox, 1 PS2 and 1 GC) and wireless so you could pick up a PCMCIA card that would slip into your dads laptop and would enable him to use the broadband from anywhere in the house.
If you can cancel your amazon order, I would and I would then get that. If you can't, you could always buy an ethernet switch. Think of it as bar plug.

Not expensive.
I don't have this new modem yet (I've been complaing to amazon because it says 24 hours and they still havent dispatched it since I ordered it on Tuesday) I was hoping using the standard BT voyager modem I have I could use Microsofts Internet Connection Sharing. But it wouldn't let me install it on add/remove something about "configurations not complete - install your network hardware first" so that put a stop to that.
If in the end I can only use 1 Ethernet connection then it'll suck but I guess I don't have any choice, just have to hope no one wants to play on all three consoles online at the same time while my dad is doing his work on his laptop >_<

It says it has a 3m cable with it.
802.11 is wireless networking. For that you would have needed a wireless router and wireless adaptor (either a card for fitting in the PC, or a USB connected box) that would allow the PC or Xbox to communicate with the router without a wire. It's more expensive. I have it, but I need it. If you don't, you'll be fine with what you've ordered.
It's a little confusing especially with Mav going on about a network card so I'm not sure if i need one of those too I think the modem/router is usb with a ethernet socket so whether i still need a network card if i use a cable from that instead of the pc - or if i not bother with the cables and get a linksys gaming wireless adapter (802.11b what the hell is that?). Then I need to find where to get some long cables (and if the PS2 needs a cable as well - I bought xboxlive and ps2 adapter at the same time[comes tomorrow]) to start with or a wireless thingie.
