So basically what I want to know is what kind of costs are involved and if there are any other cables/accessories I need to buy.
Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks.
My line would have cost extra to get that done with it so actually it evens out.
So post your gamertag in the thread then.
Kitt, I couldn't tell you what all the online games are (well I can for the Gamecube, there only is one and that's PSO) but if you get the latest link from the Xbox Live Definative Thread then you'll know what games the rest of us all have.
The sony forum has started building an online thread, but there are fewer players and fewer games for the PS2 online.
> Mine does all the same for £65 :-p
Noooooooooooo! :D
What is it?

Yep.
Data transfer from PC to PC now that's something I can really use, I wonder what it's like for PC gamin. Ah yes cat5 crossover cable. I came across diagrams of the two types when I was searching for them. I imagine many people have made that mistake. The crossover cable is just like the xbox link up cable? Cool so you just switch it for the straight cable and connect the two up. That ought to save a few pounds from buying an official one. thanks and a special thanks to the incompetence of amazon.
I wish there was a definitive list of online games for the xbox and ps2 and on whether you can have more than one player online. It's very difficult to decide which games to get. Although we only have 1 game on each of the consoles, they had already bought presents before I decided to buy them their online packs so it's too late to get online games for christmas >_<
I'll be glad when this is all up and running.
Although I didn't get a sticker. At £55 for a sticker don't think I want one either!
The adaptor thing I was talking about was to use wireless instead of having a cable from the Xbox to the router.
So you all Lived up now.

I got a Zoom X4 Router.
It's actually a router, modem, gateway and firewall which is nice. It allows you to directly connect the Xbox to the broadband line without the need for a PC (although you need to feed information into it with a PC to set up the X4 - after that you don't need the PC).
Set me back 120 quid but it was guaranteed to work with Xbox Live. It had a Xbox Live sticker and everything, A STICKER!!! :D
Its catchyily titled Ebuyer Extra Value ADSL router 4 port with wireless. Or something like that. The link should still take you to it.
Then the cables. I bought mine off of Ebuyer as well, Belkin ones for under £2 each.
I actually prefer using a wire to the router from my PC, as it can give a transfer rate via a wire of 100Mbps. Via wireless the maximum is 11Mbps. If you are transferring lots of data between PCs then that makes a difference. For the internet it won't though, ADSL is only 512Kbps.
Anyway getting overly technical now. Just make sure that you get normal Cat5 cables NOT cross over ones.
However I also pointed out that if you ever want an Xbox system link cable to link two Xboxes, then buy a crossover cable.
You have a few options regarding cables. You can spend £10 or so on an ethernet card, that would allow you to connect a PC to the router by a cable. Or you can buy a wireless PCI card that would connect to the router wirelessly, from around £35. Both of those options require fitting something into the PC.
The third option for a desktop PC is to buy a USB adaptor that will let the PC connect to the router wirelessly. These can be gotten from around £22 upwards.
There is an adaptor that will let you use the Xbox wirelessly but it is almost £70 and I don't know what one it is. Best to stick to a cable for it and the PS2.
For your dads laptop you would want something like this:
http://www.dabs.com/uk/channels/hardware/ networking/productView.htm?quicklinx=2MBC
and it is under £20. That would let him access the internet wirelessly from anywhere in the house. Although make sure he has a slot that he can put it in (nearly every laptop has a slot like that, but just check first).
