All I can say is wow, this seems an amazing Idea... Before Rickoss harps on about the Virtual Boy and 64DD may I point out that the VB enduced headaches which was why it failed and the 64DD was released too late.
This new DS probably means Nintendo are to abandon their GBA connectivity feature as this essentially does the same thing!!!!! For those who haven't read the press release I will put it down below, but this is a really fantastic original and pure fun idea.
In a shocking announcement which is set to rock the gaming world, Nintendo have released details of their forthcoming DS Portable gaming system. Rumours began flying a few weeks ago after mysterious words were uttered from Nintendo spokes people regarding a new machine. Some thought the machine would be the fabled “Game Boy Enhanced” with the mighty power to play Game Boy Advance AND Gamecube games, however this is not the case.
This surprising move from Nintendo sees them releasing a third stand-alone portable system to take games playing and interactivity to a completely different plane of existence! This new machine will feature not one but two 3” TFT LCD screens to allow for greater scope and perspective on the games. The two screens will be backlit to allow for poor-light play. The main processor is pparently an "ARM 9" with the Sub-processor an "ARM 7".
Here’s the official word from Nintendo:
”Players can look forward to being able to manage their game progress from two different perspectives, enhancing both the speed and strategy of the challenge. For example in a football game, you can view the whole game on one screen, while simultaneously focusing on an individual footballer's tackle or goal on the other screen. Players will no longer be forced to interrupt game play to shift perspective, such as moving from a wide shot to a close up, or alternating between a character's ongoing battle and a map of their environment. Nintendo DS makes it possible to perform the tasks in real time by simply glancing from one screen to the other.”
Self-styled “Funny Man of Gaming” and Nintendo president Satoru Iwata had this to say on the new product:
"We have developed Nintendo DS based upon a completely different concept from existing game devices in order to provide players with a unique entertainment experience for the 21st century"
The Nintendo DS will feature two separate screens, separate processors and a semiconductor memory of up to 1 gigabit. It will be marketed and sold as a separate entity to Game Boy Advance and the Gamecube systems. More information will be available at E3 when the system will be fully unveiled for the first time. Nintendo says we can expect a world-wide launch before the end of the year!
Cube-Europe.
DUDE!
> Maybe they actually do feel threatened or intimidated by the PSP...
PSP hasn't got Pokemon, never will have, therefore Nintendo shouldn't really feel threatened.

This would be Nintendo's desire to face the PSP with a fresh new idea.
New ideas for 2 screens.
An action game with a first person mode in one screen and a third person mode in another.
A Racing game with a view of the cars coming towards you (back view) and the traditional forward view.
An RPG where you control 2 characters in 2 different areas.
An advanced version of the Link: Four Swords game.
An advanced version of Pikmin 2
A stealth game where you have 2 camera angles to see more areas around you.
Any game with more than one camera angle.
A Sonic game that when tales gets lost he can go anywhere he wants.
A First Person Shooter showing the eyes in the back of your head, so you can spot what's coming from behind.
etc... etc...
I was expecting something "more", really, but I don't really see why there is such a need for this - IF it IS to be used with the GameCube, that is...
I mean, if it'll be a solo device for all those "classic" 2-dimensional Nintendo games (starring Mr.Game and Watch) then, fine. That makes sense. If not, though...
What's wrong with the 'SP???
I mean, if they do want to bring this in to run alongside the GameCube as a kind of "PDA system" in certain games, why can't we just do that with our current GBAs?? After all, there's NOTHING wrong with them for it. It worked well in The Wind Waker, and would work very well with something like Perfect Dark, or even a half-decent Bond title.
It's the fact that they want it out by the end of the year that really confuses me. Yes, it is "revolutionary" and everything - and, before long, SONY and Micro$oft or someone will have nicked it - but why so soon?
I mean, if Sony came to me and asked 'How do you fancy having the PSP with two screens instead of one' I'd probably think on it for a couple of days and then go back to them saying "Why? What can you do with two screens that you can't do with one screen with superimposed graphics?"
Then again I doubt I'll get a normal PSP either as hand-helds aren't really my thing. It seems strange that Nintendo have decided to go with the DS system when you look at all the negative feedback the idea has generated so far on most forums. Did they actually bother to ask anyone whether they wanted two screens or is this a knee-jerk reaction to the hardware arms race?

All that and it still manages to flip down. I'm impressed :D

I wasn't talking so much about the games as the online features.
Larger capacity games and more ways to communicate, possibly basic websiting allowing for proper clans and communities to be set-up.
And as online games become more common, devellopers will be able to start coming up with idea's to make them more complex, balanced, and interesting.
Besides, I've not played any of the basic stuff yet so that'll be fairly fresh to me still.

Who cared if it succeeds?
What are you a Nintendo employee now?
The N64 made tonnes of money whats the problem.
I am currently playing through Zelda: The Wind Waker at the moment and its quite frankly a funking masterpiece. If you gave me the choice of playing online games over this I would choose this 10 times out of 10. The decent thing about the Cube is that once one good game is over there are so many more to play through that can't be purchased elsewhere. When the next generation of consoles come around it will be a completely different ball game, my main priority will go to Nintendo and then depending what happens with PC gaming I will most likely plough a couple of thousand into a kick ass PC and not bother with the PS3 and Xbox 2.
