Sorry sorry sorry for that horrible title... but I had to think of something.

All I can say is wow, this seems an amazing Idea... Before Rickoss harps on about the Virtual Boy and 64DD may I point out that the VB enduced headaches which was why it failed and the 64DD was released too late.

This new DS probably means Nintendo are to abandon their GBA connectivity feature as this essentially does the same thing!!!!! For those who haven't read the press release I will put it down below, but this is a really fantastic original and pure fun idea.

In a shocking announcement which is set to rock the gaming world, Nintendo have released details of their forthcoming DS Portable gaming system. Rumours began flying a few weeks ago after mysterious words were uttered from Nintendo spokes people regarding a new machine. Some thought the machine would be the fabled “Game Boy Enhanced” with the mighty power to play Game Boy Advance AND Gamecube games, however this is not the case.

This surprising move from Nintendo sees them releasing a third stand-alone portable system to take games playing and interactivity to a completely different plane of existence! This new machine will feature not one but two 3” TFT LCD screens to allow for greater scope and perspective on the games. The two screens will be backlit to allow for poor-light play. The main processor is pparently an "ARM 9" with the Sub-processor an "ARM 7".

Here’s the official word from Nintendo:

”Players can look forward to being able to manage their game progress from two different perspectives, enhancing both the speed and strategy of the challenge. For example in a football game, you can view the whole game on one screen, while simultaneously focusing on an individual footballer's tackle or goal on the other screen. Players will no longer be forced to interrupt game play to shift perspective, such as moving from a wide shot to a close up, or alternating between a character's ongoing battle and a map of their environment. Nintendo DS makes it possible to perform the tasks in real time by simply glancing from one screen to the other.”

Self-styled “Funny Man of Gaming” and Nintendo president Satoru Iwata had this to say on the new product:

"We have developed Nintendo DS based upon a completely different concept from existing game devices in order to provide players with a unique entertainment experience for the 21st century"

The Nintendo DS will feature two separate screens, separate processors and a semiconductor memory of up to 1 gigabit. It will be marketed and sold as a separate entity to Game Boy Advance and the Gamecube systems. More information will be available at E3 when the system will be fully unveiled for the first time. Nintendo says we can expect a world-wide launch before the end of the year!

Cube-Europe.

Oh great! Bellend's back to his trolling ways.

Shouldn't you be dusting your Halo figures or something?

Oh no! You mean to say that Nintendo are carrying on popular franchises? Just because they're sequels, doesn't in any mean they're 'rehashes'. How can you say Prime is anything like the other Metroid games? As ever, Zelda is taking a whole new approach to the series and titles like F-Zero GX and 1080 are furthering both franchises.

Then there are the new games like Pikmin, Luigi's Mansion (which is great, despite it's length) and Eternal Darkness (probably one of the best games around, far better than any PS2 title released).

The fact is, Nintendo make the best games around. If you can't see that you either have very bad taste in games or you're a bit of an idiot. Disregarding each of Nintendo's premier franshises as rehashes is a load of crap, seeing as almost every good PS2 game released is from a popular series.

Re-releasing Ocarina of Time probably wouldn't do Nintendo much good. There's already two different discs and three different versions on the GameCube - which are all free.

A totally new Zelda adventure in the style of Ocarina of Time would be great though - and could possibly sell more than The Wind Waker due to the style. But its all guess work at the moment until Nintendo release something solid.

Well,if this machine can do quality (maybe even better than the N64) 3D graphics, then I'd LOVE to see a portable version of Ocarina of Time, maybe even with slightly spanglier graphics...

You'd be suprised by what sells on the GBA Yukikaze.

The amount of people asking me for Scooby Doo and Finding Nemo in December was amazing! The Street Fighter games also seem to be doing well. Final Fantasy Tactics is one of the GBA's best selling games to date, and although published by Nintendo, it was still developed by Square-Enix.

Sure, there are a lot of ports and rehashes on the GBA - but they are very profitable as far as third parties go. They are cheap to port, require little effort, and sell well.

The GBA sells VERY WELL all around the world - nobody is ignoring it.

As for your freeloader comment. I think you'll find Nintendo has nothing at all to do with Datel and the Freeloader. Datel designed it purely by themselves. It is not endorsed by Nintendo, and I believe Nintendo oppose the fact it exists, but haven't got a leg to stand on legality-wise for anyone can develop software for a system.

To me, you just sound like a Sony fanboy brainwashed by poorly photoshopped pictures of the PSP, and are afraid of the competition.

I couldn't give a damn if they are still.

Metroid Prime might be a re-hash, but it also is the greatest game ever created.

I await games such as Geist with much interest.

Yukikaze, that was meant to mean I hope they don't do *another* load of rehashes. I'm getting sick of seeing all those characters plastered over virtually every game on the GC shelves.

And the reason I am in no way thinking "these games will be fun" is because that is becoming Nintendo's stock excuse for everything that is wrong with them.

Judging by sales of other games systems not too many people think Nintendo makes all that "fun" games any more.

Bullett says they do not use rehashed past franchises. Is this the same Nintendo we're talking about?

On the Gamecube;

Waverace - rehash
Sunshine - rehash
Star Wars - rehash
Super Smash Bros - rehash
Zelda - rehash
Metroid - rehash
Resident Evil - rehash
Resident Evil Code Veronica - Rehash
Twin Snakes - rehash
Mario Kart -rehash

Pikmin was original, Luigi's mansion a graphic showcase.

The GBA Sp has a barrel load of SNES conversions and Pokemon games.

Just why would this system win third party support? I mean, you're a developer and are looking at new handhelds. N Gage is a waste of time largely, then you have this new Nintendo thing, or the PSP. Each requires different expertise and tools/hardware/software and support. Do you choose Sony or Nintendo? More importantly do you want to sell your stuff or watch as people ignore it for first part titles? Sony it is.

There's loads of stuff out for each console that's not endorsed. I just avoid it.

Official all the way for me.

It was third party, I think all peripherals have to be at least endorsed for the most part, at least if the company making them wants an easy time.

Freeloader was not endorsed by Nintendo and it took ages for the two companies to wrangle something out to get it released. Region X on Xbox was not endorsed by Microsoft and never got released.
