It seems I have been living under a rock for the past few years when it comes to PC gaming however I have seen this name pop up here and there as a possible Halo beater. They have just released a 465mb demo of it however I don't want to spoil the game by running it on my GeForce FX 5200 so I will wait until Friday when my Radeon 9800 XT arrives.

Between now and then I would appreciate someone filling me in on the stuff IGN haven't previewed. Does the game have ragdoll physics etc etc...

Any information would be apprciated.

Merci!

Feel my PC will fail to do the game any justice. Going to download the demo later and see how well it plays.

Ooh, cannae wait till tonight!

Also, is there any vehicles and teammates in the demo?

I really liked it. Not quite as awesome as I'd hoped: the AI sometimes gets stuck behind objects but is otherwise really excellent; you can't whack people with your gun; and you can't shoot down the helicopters. Grapically it looks really good, but it runs like a dog on my system - hopefully this is because I'm (out of necessity) using old drivers and the code isn't optimised.

You're supposed to use the 3.9 rather than the 4.1 ATI drivers by the way.

And the torrent ended up downloading at about 85K so that might be better than waiting to get on a gamespy server.

Far Cry could very well be the first decent FPS of 2004, and first impressions from people who've played the demo seems to support this. A Halo beater! let's face it it wouldn't take much to beat halo, that game wasn't exactly groundbreaking.

Apparently the demo gives you one level, to attack or infiltrate a fort on an island. You can choose how you achieve the objective be it by stealth or just by shooting your way up. Unlike most recent FPS however, it's not linear, you can explore the surroundings as freely as you want so there exists numerous different paths for you to take.

Demo already? Must download asap but at work now :(

I can't view the website properly because of this restrictive browser. Does it have a release date shown yet?

It's my most anticipated PC game at the moment. Halo beater? Possibly (but I do need to play it first!)

Any of you who have successfully downloaded it and had a chance to play - let me know how it plays and if it's as promising as it looks!

I have tried Bit-Torrent before and thought it was a bit pants to be honest. It took about 30 minutes to get up to 55KB/S which was stupid. I am going to hold back and grab the demo in a couple of days af6ter the initial downloads have gone through.

3D Gamers have a torrent file that will probably be quicker than a busy server. I'm getting ~65K at the moment and with popular files the speed tends to increase as you go along.

Getting 30-40 kbs now...and I just got the ATI driver from ATI's site as fileplanet has a 2 hour wait.

You watch, I'll go into town tomorrow and Far Cry will be on a cover disc.
