So the final season is upon us, with promises of all the questions from the previous 5 seasons to be answered over the next 18 episodes, I for one am greatly looking forward to what's to come.
This past week we had the 2 part season opener 'LA X I & II' and, in my opinion at least, all the hype for this season was justified. Like everyone else I had heard the rumours of cast members returning and was pleased to see how it was done by playing on the whole 'did the bomb go off or didn't it'. I'll be interested to see where they take the 'off-island' stuff over the next few episodes, it seems obvious to me that all the characters will begin interacting with each other on some level after landing in LA, maybe adding fuel to the 'destiny/fate' themes that have been knocked about in previous series. The differences of the plane to the crashed one are also interesting, no Shannon, no coffin and an additional passenger in Desmond...
On the island, it was good to finally see The Temple and the 'fountain' which healed Ben all those years ago. It's interesting to note that the water had 'changed' since Jacob died suggesting the island might now be under the control of Jacobs Rival. I have a feeling that note that was in the ankh says more than the Japanese bloke and the hippy let on... With regards to Sayid, do you think he's really alive (after everyone agreeing he was dead) or is he likely to be a 'vessel' for Jacob in the same way Locke is for JR/Man in Black/Smokie? The only argument against this is that Locke's body is still dead and separate whereas Sayid's isn't.
Also a hint at Richards origins from JR, "nice to see you out of those chains". Does that mean Richard was on the Black Rock? Or was he a slave or imprisoned for something else. I think the Black Rock is more likely based upon the start of the Season 5 finale but it's another 'wait and see' situation that I'm sure will be answered over the next 3 months.
Looking forward to next Friday!
Off-island, I'm assuming that Jack's sons mother is somebody we know (Juliet?) as we didn't specifically see her not was she mentioned by name. Also his appendix was already out.... I'm beginning to subscribe to the theory that the flash-sideways are not a 'what happened if the bomb went out' world but a 'Jacob doesn't exist' world.
The whole lighthouse scene was pretty good and gave us a bit of an insight into what the numbers next to certain peoples' names mean. I would like to have known who number 108 (4+8+15+16+23+42) was though and if it is really somebody who is coming to the island? At this point, if somebody is coming to the island, I'm guessing Desmond or Penny as we have not seen either yet this series (aside from briefly on the plane) and both are supposed to be important.
Next week is called 'Sundown', a possible reference to smokie taking over?
> We knew Rousseau was already dead, we saw her get shot in season
Sorry, brain death moment from me there.
Anyone see the latest instalment? Any episode with Jacob makes me happy :) Still wishing for a resolution to the numbers.
We knew Rousseau was already dead, we saw her get shot in season 4 by The Others, under Bens orders, with Alex's boyfriend.
I agree it was nice to see Claire back with her weird-but-hot looking face, interesting to see where she has been in the 3 years since we've seen her. Also an appearance from Ethan showing more of the 'off-island' coming together of people on the island whether they realise it or not. There was another hint of the locations/stories merging with Claire naming her baby 'Aaron', to which both her and Kate reacted.
I've also enjoyed the references to the previous series thus far, with the guy who Kate decked to escape in season 3 still holding a grudge against her this week. Good stuff.
Still not sure on the Sayid infection thing, I'm still of the opinion that while he may be infected it's probably not who Dogen think it is (JN/Smokie/Flocke) and more rather Jacob.
Speaking of which, I'm hoping that this week we return to that angle and find out where he (and Richard) have gone.
Things revealed:
Sayid is "infected" supposedly with an infection, that once it spreads to his heart, will consume him and change who he is. When questioned further, Jack was met with the response that it happened before to his sister.
The plane that crashed bringing our heroes back to the Island was at the very least acknowledged by these temple others.
The French woman, I forget her name, has apparently been dead for 3 years, and we can perhaps infer the Temple crew were highly aware of her existence.
Off island, Ethan is in the Hospital where Claire goes when her contractions start. Whether this will have further implications is unclear, but I'd imagine so.
In this game, you chose one character who's story you wanted to know as if they had never arrived on the island.
After watching the first few episodes on Megavideo the other day, I can see why they made this game - it had a small display box with percentage of people who chose each character.
The one with the highest percentage was Jack.
Idk if this was a teaser for this series, so I won't say anything about what the character's lives were like, but it's interesting that the same char's you could choose are the ones in the "alternate" reality that has been created by the Lost Lot never arriving on the island.
[as a result of the rift being formed by Juliette, splitting things and resolving others, blah blah blah]
I wonder if the stories will be the same...
I must say that I used to hate Lost, until it became more Sci-Fi than drama.
Much the same for most american TV, really...
I hope that this final series doesn't turn out to be a bunch of fast resolutions and end like:
"and they all wake up on the plane and it was all a dream"
as if some primary school child had written it for their English homework.
I know Sawyer had massive hate problems with Jack at this very point, but when they'd removed enough metal crap to be able to get to Juliet after she was crying out, wouldn't it have been best if Jack had gone first? Ya know, what with him being a Doctor and all that?
That being said, I didn't care much for her.
