AND THE WINNER IS:
AliBoy for his BINGO suggestion. I am hoping to trial this for a few weeks as soon as we have had a chance to program it. Each user will get a Bingo card in their MyFreeola profiles page, and the random numbers will be displayed on the forums through the week. I like this because it provides us with something to promote in one of the e-mail bulletins, and it might encourage people to visit the forums more regularly.

There were some other excellent suggestions, and I particularly liked pb's Find Something Free suggestion, and AliBoy's slant on a Talent Competition, where each user has only one entry of any kind (though there are the obvious alter-identity issues with this).
One of our £30 Gameaday Prizes will go to the winner of this competition.
Your task is to suggest the best idea for a Gameaday Competition to be held on the chat forums at some time in the future. If the winning idea is worthy enough, then we will promote it in the next issue of our fabulous Freeola News Bulletin, to attract competitive types to the forums.
You have two weeks to come up with your idea. The closing date is Midnight on February 7th.
Your idea must work within the normal framework of the chat forums and you should explain it fully and in good English.
ABSOLUTELY NO edited posts will be considered and if the same idea is suggested several times it will be the first one which counts.
Enter this competition at any time between now and Feb 7th, simply by posting your idea on this thread, perhaps starting with the phrase "My incredible idea is..."
You can enter as many times as you want but we reserve the right to delete the entire works of competition spammers.
Extra brownies will go to anybody who's idea seems likely to produce something useful, or would encourage a high level of interest.

The keyboard animation creation
This competition could easily be set on a freeola thread. All people have to do is spend several minutes trying to create an interesting image from letters and symbols on your keyboard. Here is an example of what I am talking about:

These are 2 examples of what could have been entered. To create them all you do is find an arrangement of keys and put them in order to create a picture of what you want. I feel it will be a rather different competition and the results will be fascinating to look at.

With one chance to recommend something every two weeks it'd filter out.
I don't think it'd be fair to penalise those who've been around for a while and posted good stuff. If it's good enough it'll pass the vote regardless of who it's by.

Every two weeks nominations are accepted for the best/funniest old threads from the archives (one nomination per poster). Then users are invited to vote on the ones they like best. The ones that receive the most votes are added to a list of 'Golden Threads' compiling the very best threads of Freeola and the old Special Reserve forums.
Both the submitters of the links to the old threads and the original authors of those threads (if they're still in the top 100 posters list) are elligible to win a GAD at the discression of the GAD staff.
Staffies are allowed to award GADS to any thread linked to, even if it doesn't rate highly in the votes. GAD winning threads are automatically added to the Golden Threads list so the staffies get to kick a few personal favourites onto the list every-so-often. :D

Yeah up for board game related ideas. Risk, chess, monopoly etc etc. Will require a bit of planning
Hell freeola could host a server for a good old game of UT2004 or something.

How about a classic ad banner competition? Users create ad banners for you, animated or not, and the staffies judge them. The best ones are put on the site (or wherever you advertise if you like) and the one judged to be the very best wins the prize.

Most freeola buddies competition. Set u a thread with your name and get as many different freeola memebers to post in your profile name thread. Person with most different users wins.
