The thing is though i never even said anything about GTA3. I just said a GTA film would be nice, i even suggested having Vercetti in a different city. You're the one who brought up the idea about the mafia in GTA3

Yep, many films are like that nowadays. 28 days later was basically a re-make of the third Romero Zombie movie. Titan AE makes loads of references to other movies, The Fast and the Furious was a collage of various 'cop goes undercover' movies and 'street racing' movies all the stereotypes were gleefully there and as for XXX being anything but a smorgasboard (sp?) of action movie cliches...

I didn't miss it, i was typing what i said at the same time you typed that
Having a new story with Tommy Vercetti in a different city would have been a pastiche. It would have been fine.
Adapting a screenplay from GTA3, which is essentially constructed from many different films would have just been a collage of film copies.

No, look what I said about 'parody' and 'pastiche'.
Other wise Steven Seagal would've been sued as would have Charles Bronson who have both appeared in heavily Godfather influenced movies.

Good luck.

No, look what I said.
Resi was loosely based on monster movies and loosely had it's own plot. They wrote an original screenplay and made a film.
That's why they were able to do it. There's nothing wrong with doing the same with GTA, but basing it on GTA3's mafia storyline, as was originally suggested, was where the problem lay.
Something along the lines of a Bruce Lee fight'd be good.
