I like it yes, well done Sony. Its a good game, but it has major flaws and should be called GT2.2! If Sony were to release this game on the Playstation people would be in uproar, only the graphics save it from being any different to its predescessor and the fact it has 450 less cars to choose from.
Come to think of it, it more of a show off from Sony to display the Playstation 2's graphic and visual abilities.
'Oh look at the amazing sunglare effect' the man in the shop said to a customer.
'Oh well lets not play the game and look at the sun, shall we? Doffus!' I muttered.
Its not that special come to think of it. It is a great racer, but it has the same nice cars GT2 had (but less), its still got the same great control, and a great game length, infact it even has some of the same courses.
One whole year ago a game called Metropolis Street Racer was released onto a console which is no longer being made, it had practically the same or better visuals, a better progression system and overall was a better game. Yet it was completely overlooked by most and was left to only selling moderately well!
Don't get me wrong, I love the way Sony have gotten away with it, and yes its a great game, but its not worth buying a console for (a £300 console), it still has the same dodgy damage system and the oppenents still feel so computerised (so much for the chip), oh, and when the wheel does work its nice and easy..
Sony are claiming that GT3 is the fastest ever selling game, I claim it to be the fastest selling ever upgrade!
Seriously, visuals have taken over! Gone is good gameplay. Thank God for the GB Advance!
'I spit in Sony's eye and it fizz!'
er-yes

It's not revolutionary, but it's by far the best example of the PS2's power to date. It is also - if viewed as a stand-alone game - a very, very good game.
Okay, a good game (as I've always said) is a matter of personal opinion, but the very subject appeals to the majority of male gamers. I personally consider racing games to be one of few genres that actually does benefit greatly from improved graphics, and there's currently nothing to touch GT3.
> So why did it take so long then?
> Difficulties with programming?
AARRRRRRRRGGGGGHHH!!!!!
It's being treated like a really big revolutionary launch.
Doesn't the PS2 have more exciting titles to rave about?
I'm clean... GT-less... Wahoooo!
I don't think we can really do anything but wait until we see what Project Gotham (MXB) has to offer. MSR is definitely a better game gameplay wise, BUT Gotham Street might take the titles away from both of them.
The X-Box is no NES the graphics will be sublime. But unless the put more into the game than there was in MSR or GT2 the racer crown might stay with the Playstation and Dreamcast.
Difficulties with programming?
;-)
GT3 was NEVER INTENDED to be a major evolution of the game. It was originally called GT2000 and was INTENDED to be nothing more than a PS2 version of GT2 with enhancements in sound, graphics and handling - more of a GT2.5 if you like.
Early demos (including the intro to GT2) showed great graphics, but the cars were too shiny. This and other issues, such as generating the newer, more complex car models, tweaking the physics engine, etc., development was pushed back beyond 2000, and so the name had to be changed.
Though it may *look* the same in action, the physics engine processes more information, twice as fast as the previous games. It's been completely reworked and is now provides more realistic handling. "Realistic" in game terms, of course - all of the telemetry information in the game is taken from the real cars. You can only tell these differences if you play the game for a while - the changes are subtle, but highly effective.
So, GT3 - for those who know the background - has not only lived up to the claims made about it, it has met and probably surpassed the expectations most PlayStation/GT fans had of it.
I don't see the problem that non-Sony fans have with the game, other than envy. It's no worse than Sega releasing Virtua Fighter 4 or Nintendo releasing another Mario/Kong game. You'll praise them enough, though! There's not much GT3 'hype' on the FoG - most of it's in the Somy forum. If you don't like Sony games, don't read the Sony forum! :-)
How can it be exciting?
It's not revolutionary. There's not much new too it. All the exciting bits of realism have been left out and it's only an slight upgrade to GT2.
I'd say that something like MGS2 would be better classed as exciting...
The soundtrack is excellent, and I really enjoy racing! I guess it's down to opinion, but I love GT3. Why would I play on it for 5 hours non-stop otherwise??
It has all the nerdy and spoddy aspects of realism but they exciting aspects of realism (like car damage of trees and fences that react in some way when you hit them by snapping or losing leaves) have been left absent.
Like Er-no said, it's GT2 only slower, with less cars but nicer graphics.
The PS2 does have some exciting games but this certainly isn't one. This is a game that gamers pick up every now and then to test out their driving skills.
Boast about something worthwhile like Extermination, Starfighter, SSX, MGS2 or Red Faction or another one of the PS2's more exciting games.
Getting hyped up about a game like this just makes you look desperate to make the PS2 look great.

But... I meant flare from the sun. Crappy damage to cars though.
