After due consideration here are the results.

Everybody wants User Profiles.

RBS says lean some of the GAD prizes towards lesser forums to boost them and he suggests we include a "what's going on in the forums" or "forum news" somewhere.

Gaming Boy would like to see more input from the staff to start topics and kick-start discussion.

Grix suggests we have a tournament where we all download game to our PC and play against each other.

er-no wants a "who is here" link. You click on it and it tells you the names of most recent posters (good idea). And er-no wants the Notables to be given something to do (a request which I have just complied with in Chat forums)

TheBest_2K1 is keen on putting people in a hot seat. Everybody fires questions at the poor so...

Quazimodo would like links to your "Latest Post" and your web site url in your stats window (excellent).

Meka would like us to hold a song contest and have counters to see how many people have read a thread. pb backs this up with a similar request on reviews.

Cookie Monster suggests a Cluedo-style murder mystery event.

Dan2K1 would like on-line darts.

Dringo is keen to repeat some "Opposite Posts" - I believe this is intended to be head to head challenges on specific arguments.

Chr!stos says we should sometimes vote for Gameaday winners, instead of them being always picked by staff.

Salevunit suggested a Winning Posts Forum (view only), plus Tag of the Day competitions, Search Facilities and Caution Tags. The latter is a particularly strong suggestion, i.e. to give warning tags to people likely to face a ban.

BUT THE WINNER IS:
The prize is for the best SET of suggestions. The winner is SHEEPY for the following ideas:

FOG Lotto
Round Number Prizes (e.g. at 10,000 posts in a forum)
"Number Day" I think this means we would all be anonymous.
Vote people off the forums Big Brother style (love that).
Guess the Phantom Poster.
Complaint Button (already in place now with the report link)
Improve the message filter and the feedback from it.

Contratulations SHEEPY and I hope you enjoy munching your prize.

Thank you again to all those who contributed and sorry not to be able to mention everybody.

*********

These were the original rules.

This latest EXTRA GAMEADAY is for the best SET of suggestions for "adding life" to the forums.

Imagine that you are in charge of the forums. What would you do to start some interesting debate or to make the place more interesting?

Please DO NOT suggest things which require (much) programming. And don't suggest a chart of Gameaday winners as it is already being sorted.

We already have:
Top Posters chart
Notable/Regular/Newbie system with 'orrible colours
Voting for Notables
Extra Gameaday Prizes
Protected "Prime Topics" forum
"Stats" for history on contributors
Taglines

Closing date is August 1st or shortly thereafter, and it's the best set that wins. All the posts that you make will count towards your set.

I'm a bit of a stats freak. I want to see the number f characters posted, as well as words and posts!

Also let me know what the most claimed games are - just because i'm interested.

Also give us average words per post, so i don't have to work it out myself.

And the most popular letter used on the forums.

I bet X is more popular here, than on many other forums.

How about something like VBscript. Not Visual Basic, Virtual Board. It's like HTML but is defined by the discussion board. The tags are etc. Just replace [b] with . Simple!

Polls are good, and i know you've done them before, but how about a little twist on it, one that might also lead to an increase in sales.

For instance, how about "Which game would you like to see be reduced in price by £5 for the next 24 hours?"

Winning game gets the price drop - people buy it that might not have before.

Mind you, is that legal? 24 hour price changes?

Each member has one of those little smiley faces next to their name- like the ones on the cheats pages.
You can then rate other people on their posting skills then we can see what people are liked or not: Even showing the votes in a league table.

You know what i mean don't ya?
-(The idea sounds good in my head, but due to far too many pints of Stella, transferring from brain via fingers to keyboard is a slight problem)

Okay, I've been thinking about the whole 2 GADs thing, one for reviews/cheats and one for discussions, and I had a thought.

When you put the winning message on the site, with the little quote from it, rather that simply have latest GAD winner: Blah Blah Blah, why not call it "Talking Point" or something. Have the title of the thread, and a small quote from the winning message, similar to the way you already do.

Have a link to that thread, as well as a link to the ukchatforums front page.

Have the 'Talking Point' box on the front page, and in the sidebar of other pages too.

Any thoughts?

BTW tis is the 3rd time I've posted this, so not an entirly original idea for this thread!

Maybe we could use HTML, just the BASIC stuff, but you know...

We could add pictures etc to our posts... to compensate for the photos, you could delete all the old topics and the ones Sniper and Turbonutter write...

It really would make the place more useable. The downside is you might get pictures of Bonus and Grix in which would enevitabley, spelt wrong, crash the system!

Oh dear....!

How do you sell center? Sell? I've been up to long.... Maybe Radiohead should have called it Insomniac.... Ansemniac is a cool name but that Thom Yorke, such a fruit cake!

Now then where werre we.... ah yes...

Life...

Er.... You could add more people..... Get Vai back!!! I love Vai!

And er.... have more polls, everybody like baseball.... sorry, too much Traffic, I like Cathrine Zeta Jones!!! Everybody likes polls!

How will you destroy your PS2 when the Gamecube arrives?!

A) Throw it at passing Milk Float
B) Try playing a decent game on it...
C) Smash it to pieces with an inflatable tree frog! Or should that be FOG...

Anyhoo....

POLLS are good!

Er.... Chat? They're good, especially if you can get Emotion Icons. :)

Work damn it! Stupid non NSM Messenger compatible site!!!

Er... instead of a Tagline can we have a pick up line, in case Kate, Sally or Iguana comeback, actually I have a girlfriend... whe wouldn't be pleased if I was with someone else... she hates my cat for goodness sake!

Anyway... enough ideas..... time for food...

Er, Grix... do you live anywhere near Denbigh?!

Sea Yah!

I don't know if this would be difficult to program, but it might be a fun little feature.

How about a "Random post" button.

It could send you to any thread with a message posted in the last couple of hours or something.

Over the years I've become very jaded after many bad experiences with customer services, you have bucked the trend. Polite and efficient from the Freeola team, well done to all involved.
Many thanks!!
Registered my website with Freeola Sites on Tuesday. Now have full and comprehensive Google coverage for my site. Great stuff!!
