After due consideration here are the results.

Everybody wants User Profiles.

RBS says lean some of the GAD prizes towards lesser forums to boost them and he suggests we include a "what's going on in the forums" or "forum news" somewhere.

Gaming Boy would like to see more input from the staff to start topics and kick-start discussion.

Grix suggests we have a tournament where we all download game to our PC and play against each other.

er-no wants a "who is here" link. You click on it and it tells you the names of most recent posters (good idea). And er-no wants the Notables to be given something to do (a request which I have just complied with in Chat forums)

TheBest_2K1 is keen on putting people in a hot seat. Everybody fires questions at the poor so...

Quazimodo would like links to your "Latest Post" and your web site url in your stats window (excellent).

Meka would like us to hold a song contest and have counters to see how many people have read a thread. pb backs this up with a similar request on reviews.

Cookie Monster suggests a Cluedo-style murder mystery event.

Dan2K1 would like on-line darts.

Dringo is keen to repeat some "Opposite Posts" - I believe this is intended to be head to head challenges on specific arguments.

Chr!stos says we should sometimes vote for Gameaday winners, instead of them being always picked by staff.

Salevunit suggested a Winning Posts Forum (view only), plus Tag of the Day competitions, Search Facilities and Caution Tags. The latter is a particularly strong suggestion, i.e. to give warning tags to people likely to face a ban.

BUT THE WINNER IS:
The prize is for the best SET of suggestions. The winner is SHEEPY for the following ideas:

FOG Lotto
Round Number Prizes (e.g. at 10,000 posts in a forum)
"Number Day" I think this means we would all be anonymous.
Vote people off the forums Big Brother style (love that).
Guess the Phantom Poster.
Complaint Button (already in place now with the report link)
Improve the message filter and the feedback from it.

Contratulations SHEEPY and I hope you enjoy munching your prize.

Thank you again to all those who contributed and sorry not to be able to mention everybody.

*********

These were the original rules.

This latest EXTRA GAMEADAY is for the best SET of suggestions for "adding life" to the forums.

Imagine that you are in charge of the forums. What would you do to start some interesting debate or to make the place more interesting?

Please DO NOT suggest things which require (much) programming. And don't suggest a chart of Gameaday winners as it is already being sorted.

We already have:
Top Posters chart
Notable/Regular/Newbie system with 'orrible colours
Voting for Notables
Extra Gameaday Prizes
Protected "Prime Topics" forum
"Stats" for history on contributors
Taglines

Closing date is August 1st or shortly thereafter, and it's the best set that wins. All the posts that you make will count towards your set.

I dont think SR should do reviews for every game. I think they should give users the chance. There would be rules like how long it has to be, but apart from that, its reall a small competition. The best review for that game within 2 weeks becomes the official review! Hoe about it?

How about a beginners forum. It would be like a welcome mat to the FOG. Maybe a few Notables or regulars could welcome each Newbie.

A Newbie must write so much in the welcome forum to be let into the others. If they decide to spam or be abusive, they never get access to the 'proper' forums.

That way, Newbies get to know the way we work here, and the spammers never even get here. Simple eh?

How about 'the SR staff's hot topics'?

Each member of the SR staff chooses a topic per week, to be called a hot topic. For that week, the 5 or so topics will be in a special frame seperate from all the other topics. It would get loads of replies too. And how about, at the end of the week, there is a vote on the site. Whichever 'hot topic' wins the vote gets a GAD. It would be really easy to do, barely any programming.

It doesn't even have to be in a seperate frame. Just all the hot topics are always the top messages.

Then, there could be a new forum. As soon as a post becomes a 'hot topic' it is put into this new forum (as well as the one it was posted in). Then, there would be a forum of ONLY really good topics.

Its only one extra GAD a week, or it could even be, say Instead of a GAD on Sundays, it's the hot topic that wins.

And I'm sure picking 5 hot topics a week would not be too hard. Then, after a week, they are normal topics again, but can always be remebered in the 'hot topics forum'.

I hope that made sense :)

In edit your details, how about skins?

Only basic options really. Maybe 3 pre-made skins to choose from. You couls also offer subltle changed. Ie. the user chooses what font they want to be displayed, the colour of links, the colour of the background, and the colour of the sidebar. Shouldn't take too much programming, and would really give the forums a homely glow :D

I like the idea of the user rating system (with the smiley faces) But how about the abiltiy to rate topics? A really hot topic, people would rate as :D, but if someone makes a spam thread, it will become :(.

All topics with over 5 :('s will be deleted within 2 days!

eh?

Maybe one day a week (every Sunday) you could to a 'raffle' win...

Wherein one person is randomly selected to win an extra extra GameADay prize...

Becoming eligable would need people to meet a releaxed criteria... (certain number of posts, word posted, posted within the last 7 days... whatever)

???

I dunno ???

The nickname colours should stay the same, but how about different coloured taglines? These could show what company the poster 'belongs' to. There could be different colours for a Nintendoid, Sonyphile, Sega supporter etc.

I think Nintendoids should have a real nice colour :D

You would be able to pledge your allegiance in the 'edit my details' section.

Also you know on cheats when you rate them you have the smilely/ok/sad face next to the cheat and you click on it to rate.I think you should have one on our stats and you could rate that person, so people would know if they're friendly or a trouble maker(but one person can only rate once on another persons stats)

i think you should be able put a picture(small) on your details so that when someone clicks on your name and your stats come up, next to your name they're see the pic.
