The "General Games Chat" forum, which includes Retro Game Reviews, has been archived and is now read-only. You cannot post here or create a new thread or review on this forum.
So here is my suggestion.
In the period of time that a person is a newbie, this person is expected to LEARN how to write correctly, to make interesting topics, and not to bore us to death with console wars topics.
However. Once this person reaches the regular status, if they still continue to make useless topics and bad posts, I have nothing against attacking them. We should not expect newbies to learn so quickly, but we should not expect regulars to get away with rubbish topics.
I am, including notables in when I say regulars.
I would also like to suggest that anyone who does attack newbies instead of helping them from now on is banned from the forums. Yes, this goes for everyone too.
So, all in all:
Newbies shall be helped to reach the correct path of writing, by giving them constructive critism, and trying to help them become better writers.
Only when they reach regular status will they be expected to make good topics. THIS GOES FOR ALL REGULARS/NOTABLES WHO ARE ALREADY SO AS WELL.
If regulars/notables are found to be bullying newbies they shall be banned.
I hope that these rules can be enforced. If you believe these rules should be enforced, please state so below. If not, state, and give reasons.
> Neither could I. But I kept writing, and now I can. Marvellous.
How many peolpe voted for you to become a notable!?
> Your age is no excuse. If you are younger, you learn quicker.
That is true in most cases, but i don't think that would happen here. Being able to express your thoughts easily can be quite hard, somtimes i can have difficulty doing it and i'm 17. I can remeber when i was younger though and how hard it was to put my ideas and thoughts down onto paper.
I think that what you are suggesting is a good idea, I just don't think that it would work properly in the Chat section of FOG.
I can't believe that i'm actually replying sensibly, i'm gonna have to go and say something stupid in the spam thread.
Agreed. As long as you don't insult their grammar and give them pointers on how to argue better.
"In your first paragraph, a semi-colon would have been more appropriate than your second comma, if not a full-stop altogether. Check with pb on that though for the definitive opinion."
Ah yes, thank you.
"You need 100% secure definitions of the words 'attack' and 'bully' for this to work, so we need some kind of concensus as to what they actually mean. For example:"
""I laff at j00 little n00bie", is that attacking or bullying or jest?"
Not bullying, just joking. Newbie will probably not see the humour of it, however.
"What if it's followed by a ":-)"?"
Newbies also need to be taught that smilie = having a laugh.
What if the n00bie in question has a Nintendo console?
No, still enforced.
"How can you enforce banning when a person can just sign up again as "er-possibly" the next day?"
The point is that they then are newbies themselves, and have lost their name. Good enough punishment, I think.
"I am humbly suggesting, to avoid second guessing, that these questions should first be addressed at my behest."
You don't have to use "big" words, just make sure it keeps people reading. :0)

It's not spamming this is about. It's
> about how well the topics are written. Quick example here, there is

"i have a gameboy advance and

And:
"The

With such games as
> F-Zero and Mario to play with friends, it's never been a better time
> to go for long trips!"
Ok then i see what you mean, but i don't think that it is wright to ban someone just for how they express their thoughts either. Don't forget this forum is also used by younger people who can't present their ideas in words as well as the older users can.

============
I believe that these rules can be enforced, but with a few amendments:
I reserve my God given right to attack Nintys, whether they are newbies or not.
In your first paragraph, a semi-colon would have been more appropriate than your second comma, if not a full-stop altogether. Check with pb on that though for the definitive opinion.
You need 100% secure definitions of the words 'attack' and 'bully' for this to work, so we need some kind of concensus as to what they actually mean. For example:

I am humbly suggesting, to avoid second guessing, that these questions should first be addressed at my behest.
