Give me Streets of Rage any day.
Eternal Darkness/NBA Courtisde 2002/Starfox Adventures.... these are 3 games that are by (at the time of release) a second party developer (Silicon Knights/Left Field/RARE WARE).
Metroid Prime is made by 2 companies, Nintendo's EAD and Retro Studio's...
Now it annoys me that people refer to the game as a Nintendo second party production. For starters EAD is a Nintendo company... but so is Retro Strudio's. Retro Studio's are not a Nintendo second party developer, they are a Nintendo first party developer. Nintendo own them 100%, like Intelligent Studio's, EAD and NTSC... Retro are actually the name of a Nintendo team studio.
Therefore Metroid Prime is a first party game, like Mario and Zelda.
Anyway onto the original post. How many posts have you read mate that has a Nintendo fan praising Wind Waker because of the storyline. I agree with you so much, Strafio and many others have argued that Wind Waker is lacking due to the poor story. I claim the stroy is irrelevant and that the sea addition, the flying ability and the fantastic new control system makes this Zelda game the best yet.
Pikmin is a RTS game where you collect things, the stroyline was thrown on top.
Sunshine's storyline is laughable.
Metroid Prime's storyline can actually be missed if you don't scan things, the game stops the crisis of repetition by introducing you to new abilities as the game progresses allowing you to change how you play. In fact Sunshine did this with the backpack to a reductive affair and Wind Waker does to. Sure the simply mechanics are similar but the additional items and abilities the games throws at you keeps the gameplay fresh.
Mario Kart is a prime example of Nintendo desperate to keep the series interesting by allowing so much depth in tactical play... there is no storyline or flash graphics here.
The only game from a first party Nintendo developer that goes a bit OTT with graphics and sound is 1080... but that had the Gameplay to match.
Your argument is poor... storylines are thrown over the gameplay... Monkey Ball is a prime example.
> I think Memorandum actually has a problem with games in general
He does if he jisms over them.
"Overpretentious"
So you're saying games are meant to be real now?
Deep and developing storylines? Nintendo have never been into that. They've focused on the gameplay giving a brief story as a background.
"Nintendo are one of the worst for plastering their games with excess crap that disguises dull, repetitive and lacking gameplay."
I don't know a single game that doesn't have the same repetitive gameplay throughout. Sports games are the same throughout their matches. Racing games are the same thing over and over again with different courses. First Person Shooters are the same throughout their games.
I can't see what your problem is.
If its that you don't like Nintendo's games then don't buy them - surely that's easier than trying to annoy a few people on a message board who do enjoy the games.
Resident Evil games are very good, as is Zelda.
Resident Evil is like a 6yr old game with lovely graphics and some updated features - the puzzles are the same. Some hate, some love.
Why do you need to complain?
Nothing will EVER satisfy you! :-D
I recommend Ebay for a MegaDrive with Streets of Rage, only you'll be bored with that within a few days too! :-P
It's more repetitive than any Cube game.
Except Mario Sunshine and Super Monkey Ball.
I liked Resident Evil at the start but it grew tiresome when I realised that solving obscure puzzles constantly was stupid and pointless.
Most others I've just rented and decided against buying.
For someone, like me, who is actually really enjoying their modern titles such as Metroid Prime (though few can deny they're not as good as they used to be), Nintendo do offer an alternative to the rest.
All of my GameCube games are exclusive, and over half are published by Nintendo. I couldn't get that consistent level and standard of enjoyment in games out of any other company than Nintendo.
I'm not entirely disregarding all other games - far from it. I own a PS2 and Xbox and really enjoy the standard of some games on both. It's just that there's a lot of crap on the shelves today and I'll stick by Nintendo because I know that they don't contribute to that.
