Well, I started out thinking that just buying and playing games would be enough. But then Grix inspired me with his Swordspines company idea, so I'm going to start writing my own games, which will then be put forward to Swordspines at a later date for testing and publication.

Because I left school a couple of decades ago, I'm going to have to either go to Uni. (nah, too much sex and drinking) or teach myself, so I'm doing that latter.

My adventures will be chronicled here, because I don't have enough space on the Swordspines' corporate website.

So, first up, I got hold of Teach Yourself C in 21 days (Sam's Edition £21.99), and have already coded and compiled and executed my first C program. (It prints "and then Sniper died" on your screen, not much, but it's a start.)

Next up, I'm getting a copy of Microsoft Visual C++ Standard v6 edition, which is about £75.19, so I can edit source code and compile it in a more organised and ergonomic fashion.

Hopefully by the time I get my first game published I'll be old enough to retire and live off the royalties. More news, as it happens, in the FM's Quest for Gaming Nirvana thread...

Quake on the PC is written entirely in C. That's the same language you're looking at below, although I believe that the Quake source code has more lines in it than my source code. (So far, anyway).

The ones that I'm writing now currently CAUSE the Windows/iMac errors, but I'm working on it....

Here's a quick bit of C programming for you:

#include

int main()
{
printf( "One day there was a Sniper\n" );
printf( "who died\n" )
printf( "the end\n" )
return 0;
}

It's obviously got a bit of work to be done on it in terms of storyline, plot, graphics, sound, gameplay, control systems and packaging, but once it's released, it's going to be a surefire HIT!

Seek and ye shall find. Out of respect for the FOG though we feel it would be unfair to post our URL as it gets over 30,000 hits a week as it is.

I just wrote a program, that when you run it, it tells you that you don't have enough memory to run the program, try freeing some up.
