Iraq is a country that prefer dictators. America are ruining many countries by "liberating them".

Is there a possibility Iraq will be split up into smaller countries? Wasn't Iraq part of a larger country in the past anyway?

Well..do you think the Kurds and Shia (the majority of Iraq's population) enjoyed having no choice? Maybe the Kurds thought being victims of gas attacks was what they deserved?

Ahem...the point of a democratic government is that its people have a choice in leadership. Despite the current conditions in Iraq the current government is one its people got to vote on.
This is far removed from Saddam Hussein's rise to power.

I haven't really read anything about the trial itself, but in the end Saddam was going to be punished somehow for what he did to the country and the people...

Can't say I know the details of the trial, but surely it'd be impossible to get people who are 'neutral' to decide the outcome in this case...? Everyone in Iraq and people all over the world know who Saddam is and know about the crimes he has committed (or is alleged to have committed).
