7/10
Its rubbish really. The story is pathetic and the set pieces are unbelievable (the Japanese Yakuza settling a problem with some punk kid by having a car race? I dont think so), but the only reason you would go to see this film is for the cars anyway and the races all look great. It was as fun to watch as the other two, possibly even better than #2 and there is a nice surprise at the end for fans of the series.
If you are wanting some great acting, a heart wrentching story and some brilliantly detailed drama, then this isnt for you. If you want Japanese girls in short skirts driving customised sports cars then I think you'll love it.

Cadaverella - Not bad for and independent 'grindhouse' movie, just about entertaining enough and not irritating. Moved along at a reasonable pace and not cliched. Wouldn't recommend it though.
The Dentist (1996) - Brain Yuzna film, very watchable if a little slow in pacing. With a better script and a better pace it could have been a classic. The lead actor hold it all together and it's thanks to him that it's a fair effort.
Saw it a few days back on the 'net.. then went today with a group of mates to see it at the cinema. Bloody brilliant is all I can say!
For cinemography it was top notch, presenting the catalogue of killing in a range of exciting, realistic ways, and the ambitious use of CGI payed off.
A few qualms about certain bits of the film, like the unecessary monsters and the scale of some of the Persians but still, good stuff, with some memorable lines.
I love epic films from the Greco-Roman era and it's one of the best I've seen, making me love Miller even more for his unique style. See it!
Brutal. Riveting. Superb. Has turned me into a DiCaprio fan. 8/10.
First, there isn't much of a plot - which I suppose is to be expected, considering it's based on a PC game - which lends an almost immediate start to the action. In my books, it's quite good, after all, Doom was about killing and suspense, not in-depth characters. However, considering this is a movie some effort to develop the characters beyond the simplistic men in a unit would have been good.
I'm in the last half hour, as I write this, and the film seems to have lost its way a little .. S*P*O*I*L*E*R*S.. giving itself over to a cat and mouse scene with the last remaining men.
Don't get me wrong when I say this, but you expect a lot of deaths, some suspense, a lot of guns and a lot of creatures, if you've ever played the Doom series. The special effects do deliver quite well, and I liked the transition into a game-style view for about five minutes. The problem for me, though, was once you saw the couple of creatures they included - that was it. To expect one guy to clear-up mutations, imps, and Hell-knights solo is ridiculous considering the whole unit couldn't pull it off together.
Final plot comment ..S*P*O*I*L*E*R*.. I thought the 24th Chromosone rather than the 'mouth of hell' idea used in the games actually didn't work as well
I'd give it about a 6.5, before the last half hour. With what I've seen of that tacked on, it drops to about 5.
I'll finish the last half hour and get back to you though

Apologies Doom, it seems it was only the last ten minutes or so, due to the way that Peekvid organised it.
It was far too Bruce Lee-esque anyway, with superhuman jumping around; despite that being part of the plot, I always find scenes like that inevitable, pointless, and a bore.
Overall rating then.. 6

Mm rubbish... time for Doom :c)
Not really sure why I haven't got around to seeing it before; just haven't wanted to buy it only on limited friend recommendation and don't really rent films that much anymore.
The cel-shaded comic-esque black and white works perfectly with the piece, together with the splashes of colour and the white-on-black blood effects, both in showing the viewer something new, and in creating that sense of urban gritty crime that other modern day crime and detective type films never seem able to conjure up.
The inter-connected nature of the stories was good, and the body count was pretty ridiculous ;c) Having said that it did seem to have a few twists and a little purpose, rather than just being a gore fest, which I found when I was watching Kill Bill.
I'd definitely give it a view, if only for the techniques and the lesson in how to translate a comic to the big screen properly. It's worth a purchase I'd say, and I'll try and pick it up from the cheap off eBay, partly because I feel I've still missed bits out or not appreciated certain things that would look better from a disc rather than Broadband. Rating.. 8ish
The gore wasn't quite as high as I'd been led to believe (and this isn't really a comment on the movie itself) but it's still very much an 18, and a reasonably gory one at that.
Perhaps a little too much build-up for me, as well as a bit of lack of realism. To site a few examples... *S*P*O*I*L*E*R*S... the chase scene seemed unrealistically long, and I'm really not sure that all of the Mayan party would go after one man.
I'd give it about a 7, worth a watch, but probably not a purchase - the Mayan throughout doesn't really help either.
