The Gameboy Advance. A stunning new handheld from Nintendo. It has the power to produce games of a standard roughly similar to the SNES.

That's really remarkable, isn't it?

I'm not sure where the idea that as it's as good as a SNES, a bunch of SNES games should be ported onto it!

Mario advance, F-Zero, Golden Axe, Streets Of Rage. All old games available for, or coming to the GBA.

These are the titles that seem to be getting people excited, and I really think that that is very strange indeed.

Yes they were good games, but if there's anything coming to a handheld that people should be excited about it isn't slightly improved versions of games that have been around for the best part of a decade! It's not even a GBA game that I'm looking forward to, but one that will be available for the GameBoy Colour (if they ever get a release over here). What are these games? Zelda: Oracle of Ages, and Zelda: Oracle of Seasons.

Is there not one other person out there that would rather play a new Zelda game than old Mario games? What are you, crazy?

If the only titles that are generating interest for the GBA are the retro titles, then eventually, that's all that you'll get.

The handheld has a lot of promise, but could easily be wasted. Hopefully there will be some games that prove that there can still be originality in the handheld market. Maybe they'll make it a success when they reveal how it will tie in with the Nintendo GAMECUBE. But honestly, if you only want a GBA to play on the games from yesterday, it's cheaper to pick up the consoles and games second hand, or if they're games that you already own, but you can't be bothered to plug in your SNES anymore, why not simply emulate it?

GBA owners, demand originality, demand creativity, and stop handing over your money for old rope.

It's a bit like saying Mars Bars have outsold sofas this year. GBA is a handheld, not a console, so comparing unit sales isn't exactly going to give a remarkable statistic.
What might be more intruiging is how many GBAs were sold to Japanese PS2 owners, and how many were sold to Japanese N64 owners, and how many were sold to Japanese gamers who didn't have an existing console?

PS2 = £300, GBA = £90
PS2 = Console, GBA = Handheld
Anyone who has studied statistics will know that unit sales comparisons between the two items aren't worth the ascii characters they are typed in.

End of the day, the GBA is outselling every console on the market. Even though the GBA has only been out since March in Japan, it has already overtaken the sales of the PS2 for this year. Selling double the amount of PS2s. Cant remember the exact figures, but GBA has sold bout 2 million in Japan while PS2 has sold only 1 million.

I think that the GBA has a niche of its own, it isn't just 'an overpriced emulator' and let's face it, who wouldn't relish the prospect of a handheld version of Mame.

For a start, Tony Hawks 2 is excellent. Yes, so it's a port of something that has appeared on other 32-bit consoles, but on a handheld it's fantastic. There will be other original games appearing, but give it a chance, it's only just come out and there are already some top games for it.
