As the adjudicating officer for the retail store extra Gameaday prize(s) I, The Only Tony, hereby declare the official results of this competition.

While the quantity of entries was high the quality was "none too hot" with many "fantasy schemes" often involving females.

I must disallow any general suggestions of games championships as we did these last year and we are running them this year. I would have taken a different view if the ideas for these had been worked up into fully suggestions (with details).

As I am judging this I can hardly award my own "Two Can Play at This" idea the prize - though undoubtedly we will use something similar for an "introduce a friend" incentive.

YH had a good notion about working with schools and Meka came up with "People are Stupid" idea to give safety advice with every game!

Rakuga deserves a mention for persistence and I particularly liked his suggestion of a One Day Sale. IF we decide to do that then he will get a prize. The problem with one day sales is that once people get used to (even) lower prices they are resistant to buying at the normal prices.

Rakuga also suggested giving better directions to the shops.

I liked Namostar's idea of placing addresses of the shops on internet banners. We'll use this so Namostar - you are A WINNER.

The second winner is Fantasy Meister. He made a couple of reasonable suggestions including better promotion of Reddies. But his idea which caught my imagination was to print an 8 digit number on the receipts for people to match with a number on the internet. This gives us the possibility of running Gameaday in the shops. I'm not sure if we will actually use it but it is the best idea (in my view).

A difficult competition which has clearly stretched imaginations to the limit. Thank you for entering.

Congratulations to NAMOSTAR and FANTASY MEISTER and I won't forget Rakuga IF we use the one day sale idea.

***********

These are the original rules.

The next amazing Special Reserve competition (another one!) is to suggest ideas for attracting people into our Big Club Shops.

The main objective here is to think about the cost effectiveness of your ideas. In order for them to work they need to be, yes you guessed it, low on cost and high on impact.

If you haven't visited all or any of our shops then get yourself down to your local shop and check them out! Visit our Big Club Shops page for further details: http://special.reserve.co.uk/common/shops/shopsindex.php

This competition is open for 1 month and the best ideas that we USE will win a game as part of GAMEADAY. If no ideas are used then I will pick 1 winner that I deem the best.

CLOSING DATE: 27th July 2001 *********MIDNIGHT*********

The challenge has been set. Good luck!

You can not beat a Leaflet campaign.
It's cost effective, Deliver leaflets in your target area of each store or even a cheaper way dress someone up as sonic or Mario or even LARA, drop them off in the middle of the town and hand out leaflets to prospective customers Include what ever you like on the leaflet, A competition where entry's must be dropped off into a box in store or a discount coupon to use in store on a product say over £30 you could even leaflet drop showing how friendly your stores are and or how cost effective you upgrading your PC is, done in store by professionals, The latter two ideas would encourage Newbies and families into your shop - people who think your shop was for teenage geeks. Another suggestion which could coincide with a leaflet campaign or not would be to have a Family fun or a Game Release day for a big game, The Family Fun Day a few balloons, maybe a clown or staff dressed up silly would again encourage a new cliental into your stores. A Game Release day you may have already had but would be where a Big game was to be released, customers could buy the game at a discount at your stores "happy Hour" or buy a combo discount if bought with a console, there could even be a mini championship with the Big game release the winner reimbursed for the cost of the game or given the BIG game if not already purchased.

Attract customers? Well then I have said it before and I will say it again! have a console championships!

Tony knows who to contact and you could have it on a smaller scale in the shops and do times etc... it would attract loads of people!

I have typed so much on this subject before that if you want any more from this idea then have a look at my 'Special Reserve Console Championships' topic a few pages back...

Don't know if this has already been said:

Try and link up with local schools before the holidays. Just before we broke up for each holiday the local bowling alley gave us money of vouchers, if there's 6 of you get second game half price kind of thing.

Do the same for schools near the shops, give away a coupld of reddies to each person or something. Or had out flyers with info of special offers etc. Or give each person a £5 off when you spend £30 or whatever.

Maybe link it with other suggestions. Put leaflets around schools about LAN parties or console competitions etc.

Obviously the best time to do this would be before the holidays, so you may have to wait 'til christmas, but that would give you plenty of time to sort it out. :-)

Does anyone remember the episode of the Simpsons in which Homer worked at the bowling alley and was told that he'd get a pay rise if he could attract more customers?

He came to the conclusion that standing outside firing a gun would draw people in.....

No, seriously, I haven't read any previous suggestions so forgive me if this is repeated.

Hold gaming events. Arrange a huge LAN party or something similar. Of course this might take up quite a big of space, so if it's not in store then have it elsewhere, and stick banners up everywhere! You could also have it so you couldn't attend without a pass, and passes were only available from stores.

Have gaming tournaments. Application forms in store. 4 player games, with the winners going on to face each other.

Have in store competitions. You know the sort, pick up a flyer in a shop, and pop it in the box with a few questions and answers on.

This ones a bit different. How about oppening the shops one evening a week as a 'gamers club' or something? People could stop by, young or old, and try out the latest games, make friends, and hopefully buy stuff.

Leaflets in the local paper with money off coupons, spend over £20 and get £1 off!

Signs on the road. But on wheels, or you might get into trouble.

Respray your car to advertise the shops.

Sponsor competitions on local radio.

Advertise on local radio.

How about a 'store focus' page in the club magazine? Each month you pick a different store, write a few nice things about it, and let the people know of a special event that's going on there.

Make the shops a bit more obvious on the website.

You have peoples adresses when they place an order, so if it's within 15 miles or so ofthe shop, stick a shop specific flyer in the package with the order.

Give away free anti-static wrist bands with PC parts bought in store. Unless they're also having the parts fitted in store. that would just be stupid.

Teach the shop employees to breath fire. That would be impressive.

More if and when i think of them.....

Extend your opening hours! That way you should get more people into your shops by default.

Initiate a 'Try before you Buy' Scheme. A £5 deposit with some ID secures that game on loan for 24 hours, and if they want it they come back a day later and pay the full price. If they don't want it they had in the game, and get £2 in Reddies back instead of the original £5

Start RENTING Games and DVDs and give BlockBuster a run for their money.

Ok Ok ill be serious now:(.

You really need to make some big colourful banners, shove them on your windows. They need big yellow writing saying; 'buy so and so and you get so much of your next purchase' Or offers like '25% of this'. offers will attract many customers.

Billborads in local malls and big shops telling customers about the good things about your shops.

Leaflets in newpapers around the local areas to help promote people to go there.

Just use lots of colourfull picture and banners and people will be temted to read and walk in!:)

What, and cut half their income from clueless wonders?

Hah, yes, but they tend to be more expensive, so it doesn't do them much good.

Interesting predicament this. The older person is more likely to be trusted, but likely to give worse informed advice, and vice-versa. Personally, I wouldn't make a purchase if I wasn't informed enough to make the decision myself.

Younger people

What? Talk to the spotty assistant nerd? Noooooo... ;)

yup, they tend to ask.

Some good points though. What would be nice, is to hear the opinions of an ininformed parent, because it's all very well guessing what they want, but not easy to know if that's right.
