As the adjudicating officer for the retail store extra Gameaday prize(s) I, The Only Tony, hereby declare the official results of this competition.

While the quantity of entries was high the quality was "none too hot" with many "fantasy schemes" often involving females.

I must disallow any general suggestions of games championships as we did these last year and we are running them this year. I would have taken a different view if the ideas for these had been worked up into fully suggestions (with details).

As I am judging this I can hardly award my own "Two Can Play at This" idea the prize - though undoubtedly we will use something similar for an "introduce a friend" incentive.

YH had a good notion about working with schools and Meka came up with "People are Stupid" idea to give safety advice with every game!

Rakuga deserves a mention for persistence and I particularly liked his suggestion of a One Day Sale. IF we decide to do that then he will get a prize. The problem with one day sales is that once people get used to (even) lower prices they are resistant to buying at the normal prices.

Rakuga also suggested giving better directions to the shops.

I liked Namostar's idea of placing addresses of the shops on internet banners. We'll use this so Namostar - you are A WINNER.

The second winner is Fantasy Meister. He made a couple of reasonable suggestions including better promotion of Reddies. But his idea which caught my imagination was to print an 8 digit number on the receipts for people to match with a number on the internet. This gives us the possibility of running Gameaday in the shops. I'm not sure if we will actually use it but it is the best idea (in my view).

A difficult competition which has clearly stretched imaginations to the limit. Thank you for entering.

Congratulations to NAMOSTAR and FANTASY MEISTER and I won't forget Rakuga IF we use the one day sale idea.

***********

These are the original rules.

The next amazing Special Reserve competition (another one!) is to suggest ideas for attracting people into our Big Club Shops.

The main objective here is to think about the cost effectiveness of your ideas. In order for them to work they need to be, yes you guessed it, low on cost and high on impact.

If you haven't visited all or any of our shops then get yourself down to your local shop and check them out! Visit our Big Club Shops page for further details: http://special.reserve.co.uk/common/shops/shopsindex.php

This competition is open for 1 month and the best ideas that we USE will win a game as part of GAMEADAY. If no ideas are used then I will pick 1 winner that I deem the best.

CLOSING DATE: 27th July 2001 *********MIDNIGHT*********

The challenge has been set. Good luck!

I read about those in a book once. Apparently they are a collector's item...

Idea 15:
You could sponsor events in the catchment area. For example, on Bonfire night every year in Billericay there is a huge firework display and hundreds of people turn up. I'm sure they would like a bit of money towards sponsoring such an event. There must also be other events you can sponsor for a good price.

Idea 16:
Try and get adverts into the local papers more. Get a small advert in for example the Evening Echo and all the other "free" papers people get through their doors. Some people may see them in here.

Idea 17:
As you have done before help charity dos. Your generosity may be noticed by contributors as well as journalists and more people would hear about you.

Idea 18:
Bit expensive but maybe get an advert on sattelite gaming channels?

I'm out of ideas now.. I think.

Idea 13:
People are already mentioning this BUT they haven't got to the point I have been stressing again and again. Forget the adverts in NOM which list prices of games. Simply advertise GAMEADAY and FILMADAY and maybe mention "given to you by one of the biggest games companies in world" to show you are trustworthy. Explain to people that they can win by reviewing or discussing in discussion boards make it clear it is VERY EASY. So the people come in for the free games but as they are in the area they notice cheap computer games. THEN MORE SALES!

Idea 14:
Some people come here just for the games. Forget the UKCheats banner I always see. In discussions boards show lots of good deals like GAMEBOY ADVANCE ONLY £70 or similar. If people are here for winning free games and films as they are submitting to the site they are noticing good deals they can get. So this entices them to buy from the store if they are only here for the games.

Special Reserve could buy branches in shopping malls in places in Yorkshire, Oxford, Southhampton ect. Not enough people get a chance to visit Special reserve shops.

I think try before you buy is a good idea but in-store. If the consumer could test the product in-store it would eliminate any worries (hopefully) and increase consumer satisfaction on a whole.

When I said they needed to expand globally I meant they need to expand into Europe but not nescesserally any further.

So If they need to have more noticeable shops that will solve the problem will it? That will solve the problem locally, but as you know I live in Ireland and visit relatives once a year. I never get a chance to visit these shops. Special reserve needs more shops period. Not necessarilly large ones but ones where it is possible to order items to that shop.

I think a great way to promote SR would be to have a demo system. Where you get a demo delivered to every customer.
People would get an idea on games without paying anything.

And you should also do a award scheme, I know you do the reddie things, but I think you should expand it a bit more. Make it easier for people to get. And you should get decent free gifts with them... not always games. You should call them something else as well.

How about...

Something called... Goblets (dunno why i thought of that).
You get a certain amount dpending on how mcu the item you buy is... e.g.. a normal game could be like 2 points, a conosle 3, a control 1. Or how about a reduction in price for a next order. You shuold make this big as not a lot of people are intrested in Reddys.

Like in your cattalouge you should have a page dedicated to it with news about it. I t5hink this will get more people intrested with SR...

Sorry if this has been mantioned before.

I agree with NAMOSTAR, renting games would attract alot more people. But I reckon that your advertisement in magazines like Nintendo Official Magazine, needs a little spicing up. I think though that the best way is to expand advertisement to web pages (text messages by companies is just annoying), I reckon the best ones would be search engines like Mirago.co.uk, Lycos.co.uk, yahoo, or excite.

They don't need to go global they just need to have more shops that are noticeable.

Special Reserve needs to advertise more. Not enough people know about it. I suggest advertising on the net more at sites like PcGamer and PcZone.

Also Special reserve needs to expand Globally.

No in not a crackpot but I am a Paddy. Im subscribed to Special reserve and have bought many excelent value items by mail. I have to put up for extra charges for being overseas. Also the currency exhange as I have to buy in Sterling. It is still worth it but not by much. Maybe setting up a branch in Dublin. I'm sure that would increase sales dramatically. There are not many Brand computer games stores in Ireland.
If not setting up a branch in Ireland then at least accomidate the Euro. Sell in both Sterling and Euro. This would attract people from all around England.

But that will lead to people burning their own copies of the game onto blank cd. Then they take the game back, £5 deposit back, free game after downloading an easy to find crack = no business for SR!
