As the adjudicating officer for the retail store extra Gameaday prize(s) I, The Only Tony, hereby declare the official results of this competition.

While the quantity of entries was high the quality was "none too hot" with many "fantasy schemes" often involving females.

I must disallow any general suggestions of games championships as we did these last year and we are running them this year. I would have taken a different view if the ideas for these had been worked up into fully suggestions (with details).

As I am judging this I can hardly award my own "Two Can Play at This" idea the prize - though undoubtedly we will use something similar for an "introduce a friend" incentive.

YH had a good notion about working with schools and Meka came up with "People are Stupid" idea to give safety advice with every game!

Rakuga deserves a mention for persistence and I particularly liked his suggestion of a One Day Sale. IF we decide to do that then he will get a prize. The problem with one day sales is that once people get used to (even) lower prices they are resistant to buying at the normal prices.

Rakuga also suggested giving better directions to the shops.

I liked Namostar's idea of placing addresses of the shops on internet banners. We'll use this so Namostar - you are A WINNER.

The second winner is Fantasy Meister. He made a couple of reasonable suggestions including better promotion of Reddies. But his idea which caught my imagination was to print an 8 digit number on the receipts for people to match with a number on the internet. This gives us the possibility of running Gameaday in the shops. I'm not sure if we will actually use it but it is the best idea (in my view).

A difficult competition which has clearly stretched imaginations to the limit. Thank you for entering.

Congratulations to NAMOSTAR and FANTASY MEISTER and I won't forget Rakuga IF we use the one day sale idea.

The main objective here is to think about the cost effectiveness of your ideas. In order for them to work they need to be, yes you guessed it, low on cost and high on impact.

This idea may not attract people to your shops but may be a usable idea none the less. Do you give reddy's out in your shops? If you do then maybe the design and name of these vouchers could be changed. They look a bit dull and not that much like real vouchers. Sorry but you have to be cruel to be kind.

Both my suggestions so far are based on guesses about your shops as I have never seen one. Go on, open one up in Milton Keynes, you know you want to. ;-)

I don't know what your shop signs are like (The big ones above the shops) but these tend to be important for attracting new customers. When I first started buying games from high street shops years back I had two options, Game or Electronics Boutique. I went into EB instead of Game for the simple reason that the shop front and logo looked better. A nice, flash redesign of a logo could make all the difference for attracting and keeping new customers.

When people go into a shop to buy a game for the first time, they generally become a member of that shop. This ensures that the carry on buying games from that shop. As a testimony to this, I have never ever bought a game from Game just because I joined up with EB instead all these years ago. This sort off thing happens all the time so if you made the shop fronts inviting and welcoming, first time customers would be more likely to enter and perhaps become a member.

I don't know how much it would cost to redesign and make the signs and your shop fronts may already look the part as I have never seen one.

I'm bored here, I'm going to be on this thread for a while..

For repeat business, you could try some sort of rental scheme - perhaps like Blockbuster ran, where you get a discount if you bought the game after trying it. People would keep coming in to get a title, and would have tocome back a tleast to return it. It may also encourage people to come in and see what new titles you have, and get something else while they're in there.

Alternatively, a system where gamers can swap their titles with each other, a board with information about games that were wanted/offered, and again, people coul keep coming in to check what new items are available.

I've never actually been in to a club shop, just order off the net, so I don't know which ones of these have already been used..

You could try in-store specials, offers specific to the stores on certain days - discounts on games, or a freebie with purchases.

This has been suggested by various people (probably including me at some time), so someone will no doubt say that I stole it, but I've seen many shops increase business through a games tournament. A few consoles shouldn't be hard to produce, and people would be happy with some games or a console as a prize, which should easily be outweighed by the number of people that will be in the stores at the time, looking around when they're not playing.

Alternatively, you could host a LAN with pcs - people would bring their own hardware, but the setting up of a network could be expensive and quite complicated, to support a large number of people.
