As the adjudicating officer for the retail store extra Gameaday prize(s) I, The Only Tony, hereby declare the official results of this competition.

While the quantity of entries was high the quality was "none too hot" with many "fantasy schemes" often involving females.

I must disallow any general suggestions of games championships as we did these last year and we are running them this year. I would have taken a different view if the ideas for these had been worked up into fully suggestions (with details).

As I am judging this I can hardly award my own "Two Can Play at This" idea the prize - though undoubtedly we will use something similar for an "introduce a friend" incentive.

YH had a good notion about working with schools and Meka came up with "People are Stupid" idea to give safety advice with every game!

Rakuga deserves a mention for persistence and I particularly liked his suggestion of a One Day Sale. IF we decide to do that then he will get a prize. The problem with one day sales is that once people get used to (even) lower prices they are resistant to buying at the normal prices.

Rakuga also suggested giving better directions to the shops.

I liked Namostar's idea of placing addresses of the shops on internet banners. We'll use this so Namostar - you are A WINNER.

The second winner is Fantasy Meister. He made a couple of reasonable suggestions including better promotion of Reddies. But his idea which caught my imagination was to print an 8 digit number on the receipts for people to match with a number on the internet. This gives us the possibility of running Gameaday in the shops. I'm not sure if we will actually use it but it is the best idea (in my view).

A difficult competition which has clearly stretched imaginations to the limit. Thank you for entering.

Congratulations to NAMOSTAR and FANTASY MEISTER and I won't forget Rakuga IF we use the one day sale idea.

***********

These are the original rules.

The next amazing Special Reserve competition (another one!) is to suggest ideas for attracting people into our Big Club Shops.

The main objective here is to think about the cost effectiveness of your ideas. In order for them to work they need to be, yes you guessed it, low on cost and high on impact.

If you haven't visited all or any of our shops then get yourself down to your local shop and check them out! Visit our Big Club Shops page for further details: http://special.reserve.co.uk/common/shops/shopsindex.php

This competition is open for 1 month and the best ideas that we USE will win a game as part of GAMEADAY. If no ideas are used then I will pick 1 winner that I deem the best.

CLOSING DATE: 27th July 2001 *********MIDNIGHT*********

The challenge has been set. Good luck!

People are stupid. Take advantage of them.

Advertise the fact that you give advise on how suitable games are to certain ages.

Pretend to be Oh so moral, saying "I'm not sure that 'Psycho Bunny Killers' would suit your young Timmy, 'Happy Bunny 3' may be a better choice."

Dumb parents will love you. Kids will hate you though.

Claim to be specialists in ergonomics, and offer advice on how rooms should be laid out for risk free gaming.

It's all simple stuff, like don't sit too close to the TV, have your console off the floor, sit on a sensible chair. When using PC's give DSE guidelines (take regular breaks etc). Layout of PC peripherals - Printer should be somewhere, where you don't have to bend down or stretch too much to get printouts.

You can make it all up, and impress stupid people with lots of money, and make them love you.

To give more games away would cost far too much.

Do a kind of instore game a day thing. A free game could go to the days highest spender, the only stipulation is that the highest spender must have paid over say £50.

How about using more advertisement in your "discount mag", at the moment all people see are 7 small maps at the bottom of every small page. Advertisment is the key to success. In your "discount mags" you could have a page just to show how popular the shops are at the moment, a large picture of one of the shops and even customer views on the shops.
You could also include more information to do with dicounts etc.

More:

1) Have a float on the local carnivals with staff dressed up in silly costumes. That would get more people to come to the shops, even if it was just to make fun of the staff...

2) Get work experience students in from local colleges. This will increase the awareness of the shop when they go back to school/college and brag that they worked in a games shop all week.

3) Get some of your staff to help out at local events, not necessarally sponsoring events, just helping, but with SR t-shirts on. Supplying flyers and balloons at local party and charity events will also get you noticed.

4) Organise a treasure hunt, with clues leading to the next clue and culminating at the SR shop. The people would pay a sum to join in, which would go to charity, and the first person to get to the treasure would win a game of their choice.

5) Keeping with the balloon idea, release hundreds of them wih little cards on, all with different numbers. The cards could also contain a message saying that whoever takes their card to the store will be entered in a draw to win a PS2 or other prize.

Loss leaders.

All shops do them.

I'm sure you do already.

Sell one item at no profit just to get people into the store, hoping they'll buy other stuff, and return to the store in the future.

How about PS2 steering wheels as a loss leader. Millions of people want GT3, so if they see they can get a cheap steering whell from SR, they might just buy the game from there too.

Why dont you do a kind of point system. What you could do is give points to people who go to your shops to purchase goods, the points could be collected up to earn money off vouchers.

You would have to give each customer a points card which they have points added on to, evetually these points will add up and the customer will recieve a money off voucher worth £2.50, £5.00 and so on.

Off course only the customers that went to the Special Reserve shops would get the cards, points and vouchers.

The first and only good idea from Stick474.

Not exactly a cheap idea, but maybe worth considering:

Put some PS2 pods in places like local cinemas, train stations, other places in which people wiat.

Have these games are available to buy from SR

I would wisk myself down to the nearest club shop, but there's just one teensy little problem.

The nearest shop is 92 km away!
