Wasnt that a quote from Red Dwarf? Either that or

Nope, I'm not gullable as on Red Dwarf the page they found was something like, "Any relations to real people is coincedence, as the bible is entirely fictional."
Something like that.
Anyway, I've already congratulated everyone on this intelligent discussion-but I will do again.
Thanks, and well done.
I've enjoyed the debate in this thread and have argued on a number of points and interpretations of the Bible because I do really enjoy this subject. I am not a believer but I think that Christianity has had such a fundamental role in shaping western culture that its important to take some interest.
At the end of the day, it doesn't matter whether you believe or not because all the major monotheistic faiths boil down to one simple thing. If you for a moment cast aside all the terrible things that have been done in the name of religion (I can think of some truly barbaric acts carried out by people who honestly beleived they were doing the right thing - the road to hell is paved with good intentions I guess...), religion has taught people the most important basic principle.
That is not to say that if you are not religious you have not learned the same lesson (or that if you are religious you are incapable of forgetting it!). Humanist thought and philosophy has come to the same conclusion without the need for religion. Morality does not necessarily spring from religion.
To me, it all boils down to this: 'Do unto others as you would have others do unto you'.
I can honestly say it's been interesting reading this stuff, and not once has anyone degenerated into "You suck" "No you do".
I just wanted to chuck my hat into the ring, that was all.
A decent argument (not a fight, but an argument) is always a pleasure to read.
Also, on FOG, a guy called NiGHTS told me that some quantum physics reports prove we are not actually here! Strange, eh?
Also, who was it who said they found a missing page in the bible saying, "Dear Andrew, enjoy the book."???
Surely that is bull-it would have been all over the news.
This is one of those things that will never be answered, and the people that do know the answers can't come back and tell us, because they're either in heaven (of whatever religion you follow), or they're underground not existing anymore.
Everyone has their beliefs, everyone is right and everyone is wrong.
Just live how you feel you should live and let others do what they want.
Ant feels that God has changed his life? Good for him, I'm happy.
Andrew Hunt doesn't believe a god exists? Good for him, I'm happy.
I believe that we are pod-people from Pluto? Good for me, I'm happy.
Is anyone seeing a pattern here?
Good for you, I'm happy.
Whatever your belief, whatever your denomination.
Except for Mormons. Those guys are waaaaaaay out there.
I think religion can help some people but it makes me think or at least wonder where we would be today if religion hadent been invented or even if we all agreed to disagre. Maybe we could have spared a lot of lives and could be living in a peaceful world. Maybee...
