Meh, speed and technical skill isn't everything. Some of the most simple riffs can often be just as satisfying to hear as someone playing thirty notes per second.

And as for technicality/musicality I think that having an excellent level of technical skill is important, not because it lets you ram through stupid 23978372372 note per second shred solos but because the greater your level of technical ability, the more techniques there are to exploit for different effects. It gives you the option of playing fast if you so desire.

Playing fast for the sake of it is pointless, but there are times when it can be appropriate and useful.
